Hey all,
Just wanted some feedback on what you'd do in my situation.
My coolant pump/water pump failed earlier this week. Noticed my radiator fans blowing harder than usual and then a day after my AC stopped working. Brought it to the dealer and after a few days they diagnosed the coolant pump failure. Cars at 17k miles, just over 3 years old, and naturally my warranty expired in February. Dealer is quoting me around 2k for the job - should I be more firm about them doing the repair under warranty as a courtesy, considering my warranty just lapsed like 5 weeks ago? The car has been extremely babied, garage kept, no mods, 4 oil changes/services since I bought in new back in 2023.
They couldn't give me a solid reason as to what caused the pump failure in the first place. Didn't have any signs of coolant leak, it just failed seemingly out of nowhere. Feels like it was more manufacturer defect which is why I lean towards having it covered as a warranty repair despite being slightly outside the 36 month window. I knew going into buying this car that the coolant pump failure is pretty common but I was NOT expecting to have to deal with it at only 17k miles...
