Seen a few people asking about lifting points for this car (and someone saying you shouldn't jack from the diff), so just to set things straight here are the official jacking points from the Toyota workshop manual.

Full manual can be downloaded here: https://gofile.io/?c=ncDuuU

So basically:
  • Jack from the diff at the rear and from the highlighted circular area at the front.
  • For a 2 post lift, use the obvious plastic pads at the sides of the car.
  • For axle stands - once you've jacked it up using the diff etc, place the axle stands under the plastic pads at the side of the car. Note that if you don't have the proper BMW pad adapter you might damage the plastic a bit with your axle stands (I know I did on previous BMWs). If you want to buy the adapter just search online for something like "BMW Axle Stand Pad".

EDIT: Here's some photos of what both the jacking points actually look like.

FRONT

When the car is up in the air its easy to see this big circular groove that indicated where you should jack from, but when you're laying on the ground looking under it, its not too easy to see.

REAR

Jack from the diff, but not from directly on the fins of the diff cover. Basically just position the jack right behind the fins (not on them) and you'll be in the right spot.

Basically anywhere inside this highlighted area:

The key with the diff is to stay away from the fins, the seam, and the gasket area. These pictures clearly show that. In practice, a lot of finned diffs get damaged because people don't know any better or don't pay attention.

yeah and it doesn't help that its actually quite awkward to see past the fins when you're jacking it from the rear. I took some photos today while I had the car up on the lift so will update the original post in a minute to add some pics and highlight the correct areas

That would be great.

Does anybody make a pad/adapter to use at the center front axle lifting point?
its a flat circular area and most jacks have a flat circular face that they lift with, so not sure why you'd need any kind of adapter?

I just attempted to jack the car up and noticed some things. The specified jack points in the front and rear are essentially between the wheels. So, unless you have a pretty long jack, it wonā€™t reach the specified areas. I measured roughly 36ā€ from the indented circular area to the front diffuser. The jack itself will have to be longer than this to avoid rubbing directly against the car.

Am I missing something because thereā€™s no way that my jack will reach either the front or rear jack points.

Unless your car is slammed, most jacks will slide under and reach the jack points. My Harbor Freight low profile jack slides in the front and gets to the front point without issue.

Iā€™m at stock suspension with a Pitssburg Low profile jack and thereā€™s no way itā€™ll reach. The edge of the jack is still only at the black plastic guard and about a foot away from the indented area with the bolt.
