price is $50-60k range, base engine is not 3.5L, does not have anywhere NEAR those power levels, and the two trans options being tested were 8A/DCT
Would rather have a manual, but I could learn to live with a DCT.

my understanding is that they were not sure how much power is needed to make the car marketable, but that is was already impressive in performance as far as what it was doing on the track.
Typical MK4 owner response: 1,000hp :p

the car was testing at the mid-300 level on the Ring and weighed just north of 3000lbs in testmule guise. my understanding is that they were not sure how much power is needed to make the car marketable, but that is was already impressive in performance as far as what it was doing on the track.

so many things can change though, especially when it comes to things like power level and options.

I told them how much power my car makes, and they were like how do you even drive that around? I was like it's nowhere near as crazy as you think haha.

That said, they were more or less making fun of mkiv owners by saying they all want 800+hp. It was pretty hilarious...

That's not bad. I hope they make it so good that they can advertise it as an alternative to Porsche. Also is it going to be called supra or should we expect a name change like the Lexus SC to Lexus LC?

I can't release that info because it would be a instant give away as to who I am. Good question though! Should be interesting to see everyone's reaction when it's released.

Oh nice :)

On a serious note, marketing wise, I think it would look bad if it is anything less than 400hp.

Part of what made the Supra
I personally was hoping for 400hp+, especially given that as long as it has slightly less power than the 2URGSE then marketing wont complain.

I think we may end up with 380hp +/-
But where are you getting the 50k-65k number from? ... Wouldn't that cannibalize the z4... That's the price of a z4 which is luxury.

it's 50-60k, not 65, and source is directly from the engineers.

and Toyota doesn't care about BMW marketing and vice versa; I meant Toyota marketing for Toyota/Lexus cars.

Well I really hope that's not the case. The price vs performance gap is a sin. Competitor's vehicles offer more HP for less $ and you're breaching on rc-f numbers.

The gap between the 86 and the Supra will also be enormous in terms of cost and performance...

the RC-F starts at $65k and optioned out goes WAY above that ($81k). it's also a Lexus meaning luxury and weighs 1000lbs more.

The Supra will likely start at the bottom end of that 50-60k, so it's really not a big deal IMO.

I dunno man, to me Toyota was about a perfect marriage between value and quality. Maybe it's just the millennial in me. I've been blessed with a good career, my wife even more so. I can for sure afford that.

However, I can't justify spending that much money on a car. If 50ish is the price after all the packages then that's not so bad...

But as I said earlier, you can get a lot of car with performance from competitors for that price.

I guess we'll wait and see

Good point. but a lot is going on at TMC right now that might bridge a lot of price gap in there line up. remember there is still another supposed sport car that might join the line up. The renewed celica trademark might take the 86 name and go up in price so that the smallest SFR(IMO a perfect miata and s2000 competitor because of 2 seat) can step into the price range of the current 86. Just an assumption.

The Supra was never a bargain; it was always expensive as hell lol...

they were 45k in 1993. that's 78k in today's money just for reference.

50-60k is just fine.. I wanted it to be 45k personally, but they said the compromise would have been too great so thats that.

I think I used 2016 for that list, so it maybe slightly higher if we used 2017.

Yup, roughly the same ball park as the C7 in terms of pricing.
