I took delivery of a Phantom Gray (matte) GR Supra about a week ago. Yes, this color and yellow are super rare, as the most common colors are White, Black, Red, and Silver. It took a while for the three dealers near me to even get one in so I could see the color in person. I live in the east bay area (California).

I had a MKIV in metallic gray and wanted to get the MKV in gray as well. I decided on the matte gray. Yes, it is harder to care for, but looks sooooooo good in person.

There is a good thread on matte gray detailing and prep you should check out. https://www.supramkv.com/threads/matte-paint-detailing-and-new-car-prep.2138/

I have not gone with PPF yet. The issue is that the matte sheets are not wide enough to do the hood w/o a seam. I believe there is a gloss sheet that can cover the hood in one piece. If you are going with the matte PPF, the difference in sheen will be noticeable, as the PPF is more satin than matte. I'm waiting to hear from someone else who wrapped their hood in matte PPF.
I am an owner of Nurburg matte grey as it is sold in Oz. Have arranged for a full car ppf appointment (Suntek matte). Expecting it will look different from stock, but I am too paranoid about side scratches from opening doors as well...

Check the brand of ppf the detailer is using. Some of them have released larger sheets which will fit the clamshell bonnet in the last few months.

Suntek Ultra Matte comes in 72” sheets. Xpel can be stretched to make it seamless over the hood.

I had my entire car wrapped in Suntek Ultra Matte so I have seen the 72” roll in person. A few others have had Xpel Stealth applied with stretched film to give a seamless hood install as well. Both films are great and the install will be what makes or breaks it.

My matte grey with Rexspeed carbon fibre mirror cap... Doesn't look very matte indoors does it?

Still waiting on ppf appointment before I properly drive it... so paranoid about the paint given the problems I had on delivery...

Looks great, I went ahead and used the car without it, so far a few chips, but I can live with that, my plan is to get the saibon carbon fiber hood anyway, but for the front bumper I might take your route and protect it.

Glad to see more Matte owners :)

Hell yeah, rsx club here too! Lol
Yes! it's my daily actually, I would think there is some overlap between the Supra/Lexus community and the Honda/Subaru/Nissan/Mazda crowd.

Just saw your sale post, wow, impressive RSX! I would like to have mine as clean and powerful as yours, so we are two Supra owners with RSX lol, please don't tell me that your wife also has a Stinger :p

It's very hard to fine a clean RSX now days, congrats! Keep it, unless you need the money I think it's not worth selling it.

Thanks man. Haha. No Kia here. I am selling it because of no more room to store it and it deserves a new owner that will take good care of it. I already got another car as a daily.

Hello from Phoenix just got my Phantom 3 days ago. I wanted one of the grey shades. It was an easy choice. Going to get PPF very soon.

I thought the Owner's manual specifically indicates that the matte gray paint should NOT get PPF as it will ruin the finish??

Wow, I forgot about this thread.

Interesting... Since I have a Matte Grey with ppf.

Firstly, my understanding is that the ppf finish will alter the finish of your car, a gloss ppf will make matte grey gloss grey and a matte ppf will make a black car matte black for example. In the past (and currently at Toyota dealers), only gloss ppf exists which will of course ruin the look.

Secondly, OZ manual (p366) Vehicle care - matt paintwork:
- only use cleaning and care products for vehicles with matt paintwork
- work top to bottom
- use sponge/soft cloth
- for hard to remove marks use neutral detergent and rinse.
- wipe away water
- no wax or abrasive compounds

Also, the reason others and myself are applying ppf, is largely for maintenance purposes, it is much harder to maintain the matte finish than gloss. E,.g. any scratches cannot be buffed out (requires a repaint).

Finally, Photo of my car with tinting and Suntek ppf., similar lighting conditions to the earlier photo in thread I posted pre-ppf. N.b. I can update it tomorrow with a current photo with new rims, exhaust etc, but at least this shows the ppf finish.

as soon as I purchased it the dealership pushed the PPF on me. I felt it was the right decision but that's before I knew Toyota owners manual stated not to cover it.

Most of us in the UK opted for PPF also. I personally wouldn’t want a matte car to be spoiled by loads of stone chips.

I think Toyota are probably concerned that people will try and remove the film themselves, damage the paint and then claim on their warranty. If you have the dealer who installed it remove it, I think you should be fine
