What I'm confused about now is how the Spec-A and Spec-B cars roll out. Sounds as though it's just going to be Spec-B as the base for both 6cyl variants with Spec-A just being used for testing? Not sure.
Thanks mate, so a little summation for my own understanding:

Spec A - 1300ish kg, 4cyl
Spec B - 1300ish kg, 6 cyl, 340hp, much faster than Z4 and about same as Cayman GT4 / Cayman GTS
Spec B GRMN - 1220ish kg, 6 cyl, 385+hp.....

And yes, it's the 340hp car that lapped the Z4 by ten secs lol
Jesus... the high power low weight one will be a monster, fingers crossed.

Dear god I hope it has a glorious inline six scream

I think it's best to think of the GRMN as it's own spec or as an offshoot of the Spec-B.

The Spec-A is the bare bones car with the sliding calipers and altezza taillights and halogen headlights, but there is one of these that keeps getting spotted running hard on the ring and it's def a 6cyl under the hood. But there's also a 4cyl in one of these that's running a 6spd derived from the FRS.

Then there's the Spec-B car which has forged mono block calipers, the led tails and headlights, but we never see this one in the videos (to my knowledge). It's 6cyl only and you can hear it in the gas station video, but beyond that I haven't seen much aside from pictures.

So I'm still needing a bunch of clarification on the rundown of all of this and whether Spec-A is even going to be a thing now given the newer information. We know they're still using it for testing in other words, but no idea on production.

Haha, I enjoy discussing it and even though I'm supposed to shut up I'd rather share what I can because in a way I feel like I'm doing some PR for the car and discussing it with the folks that will make it successful, future owners/enthusiasts.

I hope the car is a success.

Well that's it... knowing it's focus is handling and pure speed, i may be tempted to sell the AMG for one.... if it was just a rebadged BMW M2, definitely not.

I have more of the details on how it was done, the exact weight, as well as dimensions, but I can't give out that information.

It very much sits at under 2900 though, partly because the car is actually pretty damn small. Smaller than I thought it was.
You just made my week, thanks!

Obligatory at this point:

One concern triggered by that low weight: If Toyota is forced to use a lot of relatively exotic materials to attain it (say in a carbon fibre driveshaft, or in the heavy use of aluminum in body panels and suspension components) it could push the car's price up considerably, well into BMW territory.

it's more evident why the car is going to cost $55k now; it's exactly because of those exotic materials, but that said there aren't a ton.

there's one particular spot where they're using most of it and it ends up saving a ton of weight.

Ouch - is that pricing firm now? That means in Canada it's going to be around $62-63k (based on the standard pricing differentials between us and the US). Just a grand or two below the base Vette price here, and within shooting distance of the 650 hp ZL1.

It was always going to be around that price for the 6cyl car, and being that the 4cyl appears to be non-production at this point thats pretty much just the way of things. It may end up being closer to $50k, but it's still in that range according to the engineer I spoke with.

the GRMN car is expected to push up into the mid 60s.

This is exciting stuff. I still don't see myself as a buyer without a manual transmission, but it's looking to be a very impressive car for those that don't care about that.

4 cyl is not on the cards anymore ? i thought from the beggining that the 4 cyl was gonna be offered with hybrid ( as i have previously posted ) but i thought it was going to offered as a standalone low spec car too with a manual like the z4, which only the 4 cyl will be offered with a stick.

yep, just 6cylinder car with paddles. apparently this has never changed either from what I heard.

they've been testing the same cars for the same purpose and while there are all sorts of rumors and arguments, the 6cyl car was always the goal. that said, it doesn't mean they arent still developing other options, just means they arent intended for production at this time.
