Is there a possibility it was overfilled and hence leaks?

Best to have it emptied, then refilled to manufacturer specs and monitor.

Keep us posted.

I spoke with the dealership yesterday, so far their only solution is to replace the drain plug (which they have to source because apparently there wasn't a Toyota part number for it yet). I'll report back the day after it's plugged (Wednesday), and a week after to share if it worked or not.
I hope you donā€™t get upset having a BMW part in your Toyota. /s

It is possible, but only the manufacturer would know if it was overfilled as I havenā€™t drained or refilled it. Iā€™ll keep this updated... it looks like other people with this issue have said it was resolved by replacing the drain plug, so thatā€™s comforting

Following up with the other supra owner. Today he noticed the leak again. This time it wasnā€™t as bad as the previous time, but still a leak at the drain plug.

I donā€™t think itā€™s coming from the drain bolt I think itā€™s coming from the top breather

You may be right. I just would expect to see some oil at the breather.

I donā€™t see an o-ring seal on that plug failing twice unless machining was terrible on the seat or they forgot the ring.

Every Supra I've ever owned, from A60-A80, F series, G series, A series and B series diffs have sprayed fluid out the breather when you get them stinking hot.

Usually an extension on the breather sorts it out

An update from one other member that had the same issue.

"So a little update on the diff I went to Toyota todayļæ¼ And the technician that was working on my car called the headquarters and they said thereā€™s a certain type of wax in the diff that when the fluid heat up it Pukes itļæ¼ through theļæ¼ Breatherļæ¼ "

So it sounds like this is working by design.

So i guess that this is one of those unsettling things we have to live with. Our cars fart when they shift and leave little skid marks from the diff when it heats up. Still love the car though!

Interesting.

So my last car, 2018 Audi S4 (B9), had this same exact "issue" if you will. There was excess wax around the front diff area that leaked a bit onto the outside. I caught it in the first couple thousand miles. Nothing was faulty or overheating or causing issues either.

Was constantly messing with my OCD everything I checked under the car lol.

Cheers,
-V

Took mine in for service today at 7000km, they said the temp sensor on the diff is leaking... :dunno:

From what i've experienced with this while owning the car since October is that this is normal. Mine has stopped leaking, Chris Hill noted to me last night that his has stopped leaking as well.
