Some snippets:

Destined to be unveiled in its racing setup at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6, information is just starting to surface about this new strategic launch.

Now to the all-important engine selection that was co-developed with BMW. The entry-level model will be powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo generating 192 hp while a high-powered 245 hp 2.0-liter turbo will offer beefier performance. Leading the new line-up as its flagship model is a BMW-developed 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder turbo pumping out a healthy 360 hp, with all three engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Magna Steyr...will start producing the Supra later this year, readying the cars for delivery to showrooms in Europe and Japan by Spring 2019. The car’s main U.S. market can expect deliveries to start soon after the production version is unveiled at the Detroit show in January.

Look out for the Supra early in 2019 when it arrives in showrooms with the entry-level 2L version wearing a sticker price starting at just over $50,000, while the flagship 3L turbo model will tickle the north side of $60,000.

Also some other details about Gazoo Racing which sounds like will be limited to the Japan market.

Supposedly Geneva will just show us some sort of "racing setup." Could be a vision gran turismo car, who knows.

The info sounds believable, but underwhelming. $50,000 for the entry 2L? Only 360 horsepower for the top-level car at $60k? Difficult to see how this would win many buyers. 8 speed auto expected at this point but still disappointing.

Also the delivery info is a little ambiguous, showrooms in europe/japan by spring 19, and US market after unveil in Detroit in "January" which is presumably January 2019.

Would love to know the source. Forbes is typically legit but I don't really think of it as a source for automotive news.

So working from the writer's estimates, the 245 hp variant is going to be about $60k Canadian. WTF? I hope this is wrong. If it isn't I will definitely be test driving a 330 hp, $34k CAD 370Z Sport next summer (that could probably be negotiated down to $31k).

I'd bet there will be much more of a price differential between the base 192 hp model and the 360 hp version than what this writer claims ( if they even sell the 192 hp trim in NA, which I seriously doubt, given the 86 is outputting 205 hp). $40K USD at most for the base version if they want anything more than trivial sales numbers for it.

192 horsepower just doesn't seem compelling in any market at this price. Maybe they will be discontinuing the 86 and this would be a de-facto replacement? Such a low number, makes me question the rest of the article.

Sounds in realistic to have a car so expensive to come with so little hp. It would have to have a lot lower MSRP to make any sense. Maybe starting at $30k MAYBE. Furthermore, If it's automatic only, I will cry.

This cannot be true....I hope it's not true. I mean, why would anyone buy a 4cyl Turbo 192hp "Supra" for $50k when the little sister the 100% JDM GT-86 makes 205hp and costs $26k??? Either this article is another BS article....or Toyota has lost it's marbles.

Also, being a 2-seater might hint at yet another reason why they won't call it a "Supra". Historically speaking, has there ever been a 2-seater Supra? Me personally....for $60k, this thing better light some tires on fire....because the competition is fierce out there nowadays for sportscars in the $50k range.

i still believe the 4 banger is coming, probably just in smaller markets like A70 suggested..we're just all spoiled in the states....bmw had enough consumers in europe & china that were happy about buying the current z4 with the 18i with 154 BHP!...195 HP base supra model doesn't sound farfetched at this point, especially if the "celica"/"supra" rumors are true, but it is indeed a good laugh considering everyone cried about the GT86's supposed lack of power..

these articles have become something I actually enjoy reading because I sit there and wonder, if this information is that far off the mark then what about the other stuff they report on?

that said, I think Forbes is generally quite good when it comes to reporting on business, tech news, etc, so maybe they should just steer clear of the rumor mill lol.

-----------------------------------------

as an aside and without pushing into other areas, marketing typically chooses what goes where, but to my knowledge what was said previously still holds true. I still haven't heard anything about the 4yl car since we last discussed it however, so who knows what is going down with that thing.

I hope it's not true. But I wouldn't doubt that it is.

It comes down to demographics, and once the rumors started saying the words "Cayman" and "Porsche"... I got the feeling that they weren't aiming for the poor millennials who are itching for this car. They are aiming for the middle-aged white guys who will drop $85k on a Cayman S with approximately the same HP as what Forbes is quoting for the Supra.

I can see why they would aim for that market, as it has high profit margins and lots of options for people to waste money on. However, there is a big reason why they wouldn't, and that is because the market in that price range is chilling out a lot and people that can afford an $85k lease, could also stretch to a $125k lease and that's when it needs to make big power and make outrageous claims of 0-60 and top speed; think Z06, Viper, NSX, GT-R, etc. Porsche has been hinting that the days of the Cayman may be numbered, as people find little reason to buy it over a slightly more expensive 911 after options are considered. You just don't see many high volume success stories in the $50k-$85k price category — the Corvette is really the only one I can think of that has volume at such a high base price... Maybe also the M4?

Ye it is true that many people in europe got the z4 ( at least i see them very often ) , but times have changed . At the moment seat leon cupras , vw golf ,ford focus, renault megane rs and other smaller hatches are running with 280 and 300+ hp with like 27k to 35k euros so it would not be very smart i guess to make something that has less than 200hp and sell it above 40 k let's say .

No, but things do change over time. Celica went from RWD to 4WD/FWD. MR2 went from coupe/t-top to roadster. Personally, I don't care what they call it. I'm just hoping it will look good, perform well, and be priced reasonable.

That is a good point, lots of the new “hyper hot hatches” around...some amazing HP and performance...hoping Supra is not trying to compete in that market as this is their flagship model for the brand, but fully aware marketing and many other Toyota stakeholders have alot to say on what this car is finally like when released and priced at...I feel it is very important Toyota gets it right and I am confident they will, not their first rodeo....having said that some or all of us may be disappointed in one way or another, as they cant accomodate everyones wishes on personal choices many mentioned here such as two/four seater, manual or not etc....So anxious to see it and get the details!
