I donā€™t mind too much that itā€™s based on the existing Z platform tbh. The only thing the existing Z lacked (in my opinion) was a turbo motor and bigger brakes, which the upcoming car looks like it will have. The rest are bonuses. AMS has had some amazing results with the VR30DDTT, and considering the existing Z has a damn near bulletproof transmission, this new one will surely go up a level on strength in the drivetrain department.

Now we just need Mazda to bring back a true RX-7 successor. Good times!

The photoshop car really shows that the kink under the door needs some work.

The rocker area of the car would look a lot better with a shape like this but with the lip part painted black like on the Z proto. I can't photoshop but I think this is due to the sideskirt tapering too much as it approaches the 'kink' instead of matching the line of the door edge

I'm not super in love with some of the exterior styling. My assumption is Nissan will listen and react to the feedback accordingly. They specifically mentioned in the reveal it was 'close' but not a final design. I like most everything about the interior. Unless they royally eff things up in the meantime, I am a buyer for sure. As I've stated, turbo 6cyl + manual trans = buy. I vote with my wallet, and so far Nissan is delivering on what Toyota didn't.

There are a lot of design head-scratchers on this Z proto. That kink at the bottom of the door doesn't flow with the door seam as you mentioned, the dimples on the front bumpers and WTF is that random piece that intersects with the A pillar to the fender|door|hood?

Another pet peeve is when the door seam doesn't line up with the door and quarter panel windows like the classic.

It definitely a prototype that is for sure! But it has so much potential.

It seems like they are having issues integrating the black pillars into the hood, which wouldn't stick out so much if it were paint matched like on the 370z. I am not really sure how they will solve this without lowering the hoodline a great deal.

They definitely went with the darkest tint they could find to hide that detail which isn't a deal breaker but strange nonetheless
