The build is being put on hold for a while. I was driving on Saturday when I gave the car gas coming out of a corner, and apparently the back left tire was over some wet leaves or tree debris and lost traction -- back end rotated and the car went off tarmac (despite TC being on). Unfortunately...
If you plan on modding, don't bother. Otherwise, I think one of the Mk5 Supra FB groups recommended someone in PA or something like that (this was a while ago, I forget the specifics).
Yup, Z4 is softer from what I've heard.
Also, b/c it's a convertible, there needed to be extra rigidity around the cabin to compensate the lack of the roof.
People often forget that the convertible versions of cars need to behave a bit differently because of the rigidity factor.
Fully agreed, the MR2 was probably the last car best suited for the track IMO. Even the Mk4 was more GT car than sports car.
Aw man, I wish I was that lucky. Unless @WSUPRA comes along, I'm usually the only one here. Mostly Porsches and Miatas here.
Use your complimentary NASA track day; it will definitely teach you the actual limits of the car. And as others said, RWD behaves very differently from your FWD Civic, and the Supra isn't the most forgiving car, given that it has a short wheelbase and a lot of power for relatively low weight...
Seconded here -- plenty of folks on the bimmer forums with blown turbos on map3. Especially since WA is 92 octane. You probably want to get a 91 tune from Jesse for pump gas.
Working with a general rule of thumb that +1 PSI = +10 hp
1. The JB+ is basically a dial which dictates how much boost you want to add (I think up to 4 PSI, but owners, please correct me if I'm wrong)
2. Depends on your map, and different maps require different fuel. I'm assuming 93 ULP is 93...
I think something we forget is how far tires have come in the last 20 years. Many more tires are now capable of handling high hp numbers that were unthinkable 20 years ago.
Bit tangential to the point of the thread, but the best thing I've heard for track builds is: "power only works when on the gas, but suspension & tires work all the time".
I really don't want to drill holes into the trunk yet, and Seattle has too shitty roads for a really low front splitter, so I just have a cosmetic Maxton lip up front.
