Does that mean I can't change the exhaust system without a CEL?
I assume the same for a catless downpipe.
Limp mode all time?

I'm planning to do a software update/tuning anyway.
Long story short, yes. Unless you unlock the ecu and tune it to remove the CEL.
I went for the femto unlock, bootmod3 tune, and scorpion mid-pipe (opf delete).

A CEL caused by a removed OPF will put the car into limp mode, but a CEL from a catless downpipe won’t, for some strange reason.

If you’re planning on getting it tuned anyway, I’d wait and do the exhaust, downpipe, OPF delete and tune all together, that’s what I did.

What is causing more/louder banging noises?
Catless downpipe or the OPF delete?

I would say both, they are equal in dampning the sound.
If exhaust noises is what you sought after, I can also recommend installing XHP transmission software, in order to enable ignition cut shifting when upshifting.
And of course, with any of the flashtunes, you will be able to adjust pops/bangs/burbles or whatever the kids calls it these days.

Our EU specs are incredible quiet from factory. I'm not exaggerating when saying I felt my daily driver, a Nissan Leaf EV, was making more sound than a stock EU Supra 😅

Don’t expect a night and day difference from removing the OPF alone. Don’t get me wrong, it is a nice sound, better than stock 100%, but won’t be head-turning (imo this is how it should sound stock)
If you want it to be even louder with obnoxious bangs you definitely have to go catless also.

I'm planning an OPF delete and maybe a 200 Cell downpipe.
What do you think?

I will consider also the XHP transmission software.

Yes, it's definitely quite from factory... but not for much longer 😂

I did downpipe first, then OPF delete and coding.
I would say the coding part affect the most, however, you cannot code to disable OPF before deleting it.

Oh, I thought to do the coding before..good to know.

Because if I delete the OPF, I'll driving in limp mode and have to go to the tuner afterwards

What's the max. speed in limp mode?

Did you code the ECU to US software or did you flash MHD or similar to remove it?
Neither.
Just coding to disable OPF, I believe it also affect something to enhance pops and bangs.

So, the conversion is completed guys!

First, I changed/modified the downpipe.
The catalytic converter was removed from the OEM downpipe and replaced with a 300 cell one.

Before:

After:
DP 300 Cell GR Supra3.webp

At the same time, the OPF was removed/deleted

Looks original from outside:

OEM Cat & OPF was removed

As JadAz mentioned, it wasn't a night and day difference..

So, I modified the OEM muffler as well..

OEM muffler:
Endschaldämpfer OEM b.webp

Before
Endschaldämpfer OEM leer b.webp

After:
Endschaldämpfer OEM moda.webp

From outside, everything looks original.

I also flashed the MHD and adjusted the pops and bangs.
