OK, here is my dilemma, I have a dealer that has both Turbulence and Phantom grey cars in stock. Both my wife and I love the look of the Phantom but with all I have read about the issue with the color, maintenance, color matching if body work is ever needed, and some say not to add PPF (ie XPEL Stealth) I'm a little concerned.

With all that said, I think I can work a deal with the dealer (they seem to be pretty motivated) on either car. Would you take the Phantom or take the Turbulence and add a wrap to the entire car in a matte PPF? With the discount I feel I can get, it would almost cover the cost of the full wrap. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
pcw

I say go for the painted version turbulence. I personally believe the matte finish will be a trend.

I got a Phantom and put XPEL Stealth on it. I'm happy with how it turned out and am confident that it can be safely removed when desired. It's my daily driver.

P.s. Nothing wrong with putting PPF on the car. My dealer even helped me get a deal on it from the company that wraps their company vehicles. The issue that people keep suggesting is that they think detailers will have trouble removing the adhesive. The more I researched it, and heard from other matte finish car owners, the more comfortable I became about this not being an actual issue. There are plenty of BMWs with "Frozen" matte paint jobs out there, which Phantom is a formulation of, that you can look to as an example when it comes to the install and removal of PPF. Furthermore, the Stealth film didn't noticeably change the look of the car.

P.p.s. I went into car shopping wanting the blue A91, but once I saw the matte grey I quickly forgot all about the other car. It's exceedingly uncommon, beautiful (in my opinion), and definitely turns heads. Even though I was immediately hit with an avalanche of anxiety about the paint once I got it home, putting the film on it within a few days from purchase quickly put me at ease. I would have regretted compromising and getting a different color Supra.

Turbulence. Matte paint is too delicate. It looks fantastic, but it's better suited for cars that don't get driven much imo.

Get the phantom and pay for full body PPF. Here's my turbulence with Xpel Stealth ppf, no filters or nothing.

Here's how my Turbulence Gray with Satin PPF turned out when there's no polarized lenses (sunglasses or camera lens) used to look at the car out in sunlight. It also looks fantastic under solid overcast skies and in the evening.

The issue I'm having (which is documented by PPF film manufacturers) is rainbowing effects where the film was stretched to fit the car. When viewed with polarized lenses in sunlight (or under stronger lamps), I can see where there was film manipulation. I'm not an installer, though I have PPF on two other cars I've previously owned, and this effect is much more apparent on this car. I'm not sure if other owners have seen this as well on their turbulence gray cars. My other cars were black and white...so this was never visible. Anyways just something to consider if you're going to satin ppf the car...it was not an expected outcome for me.

What did it cost to wrap the entire car?
You'll have to get quotes from your local xpel installers, I got all kinds of crazy pricing.
I also had a ceramic coating applied
It's not cheap but totally worth it for me for the peace of mind. I also had ceramic coating applied full body and wheel faces. Expect to pay 6k plus if you are wanting full body ppf plus ceramic coating. They are especially effective when both are used. Some places charge more to apply stealth ppf because it is more difficult to install. My advice, get as many quotes as you can. I got 10+ before I decided.

Watch these two videos from Engineering Explained. He explains them so well!

You're in Chicago? These guys seem to do amazing work and I mostly enjoy some of their youtube content. https://www.chicagoautopros.com/
At least get a quote from them - I suspect they'll be on the high-end, but take it from people who have done PPF a few times...the films are almost always the same stuff from a consumer maintenance and longevity standpoint - they'll vary on how they are best applied - but the installer is the one who will make the biggest difference on the final result as well as your overall customer experience.

Shop around. It's a fairly large investment - as others said expect $6K+.

I have had partial PPF done to all of my cars since about 2004. I was just curious about what it would cost do do an entire car with a huge hood like the Supra? I have herd of the place you provided the link to. Much appreciated!

If you're going to wrap it I'd get a phantom. They look insane in on overcast days or in the evening.

I got the Turbulence because it was what was coming off the boat. Wish I could have gotten Phantom, but I didn't have a choice at the time and didn't want to do a dealer trade. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. It's a beautiful color when it's nice and clean and the sun is low in the sky.

Now, if they offered a matte black.... that I would have waited for...
