Oh wow, big difference. I love how my 2020 sounds stock and even better with the high flow single cat downpipe. I keep reminding myself that spending $2.5K on an aftermarket exhaust just isn't going to be worth the difference (as a US market Supra) after I installed a DP. That said, if I owned a 2021 that same argument would be a lot tougher to make. I suppose it is nice to know there is at least one good thing about the 2020 vs. 2021.
Did you forget the HP & torque differences?

If anyone in the US has a rear muffler they'd like to donate for science, I would like to compare the AU to USA rear muffler

with respect to the crackle tunes - i think Au got a mix between the new and first year car. We get a lot of crackles, but they're not gunshots. a little more subtle.

you get the occasional gunshot when the temp differential (it's freezing cold, or muffler very hot) is high

This is exactly what happened with BMW X3M40i.
2019 models had 355hp but had great exhaust notes.
2020 models got same hp bump as 2021 Supra to 382hp but lost all the pops and burble and people on x3 bimmerpost forum had same debate that we did here.
Of course some people were pissed on that forum similar to some people here on this forum when 2021 Supra was announced that BMW bumped HP without any real facelift on the car because a lot of people didn't know or wasn't sure about the power bump on 2020 X3M40i and got 2019.
I'm wondering if this bump is via hardware or software.

I don't even think it's going to make a difference. Torque is just about the same, and ultimately that's what gets you going. I bet if you take a 2020 and a 2021 and drag race them 10 times you'll have a different winner each time and it'll be because of the human behind the wheel and their reaction off the lights.
I'm more curious how the improved suspension will play out in lap times myself.

The 2020 Supra sounds nice
But I like the sound on the 2021 Supra more refined

2021 sounds like what my ME spec sounded stock

Looks like it has the same EU/ME muffler

Z4 sounds like the 2020 with the burbles

Thats weird. My 2020 ME Supra “bought in Feb 2020” sounds similar to the 2020 Supra in the video.

Would a video of the pops and bangs do? It is unlikely that I will be jacking my car up any time soon
My car before and after

Stock pops were not very consistent and muted. Sometimes they get loud if exhaust is properly heated

After mods, in videos sounds closer to US cars in terms of consistency not loudness

Another example of a tuned ME spec car

Owner: @7.insta (correct me if I'm wrong)

Its also not tuning, just different exhaust parts as me and others predict

No, I don't find the 2020 obnoxious, damn, it is supposed to have something to it and the 2021 sounds tame and lacks character. Hello, I am 70 and would think that someone younger would appreciate the 2020 even more but guess I am wrong. LOL Wouldn't be happy with the 2021 sound. I would most likely have it repiped.

It is like the 2021 has been neutered. But hopefully the performance will be there but love mine in the hills!

There seem to be test cars like the one above and test cars that have the pops and bangs. Watch the Redline Review of the 2021 and he actually says the 2021 is louder and you can hear it cracking and popping.

Car and Driver’s written review says the pops and cracks are gone. Definitely odd.

Yes, odd. Well, I am fine with the 2020. I wouldn't want it louder, as I hear cars that are louder and it is like they are trying to make up for something lacking. I think the 2020 does a good job with this.
