I wonder how long it would take our brains to register that 1st gear is away from us. I would probably always try to start in 5th. The righthand drive manuals are tricky for us US peeps.

Those RHD cars are weird cause the turn signal and wiper stalks are reversed and when you want to turn right, you end up saying hello face to face with on coming traffic before you crash.
