Does anyone use this heavier oil in there
3.0 Supra? …. Manufacturer says 0w/20
I’ve been using 5w/30, thinking of switching
To 5w/40 because it’s been running 100 degrees lately where I live.

5w-40 is listed in the Europe manual.

Thanks, realized I spoke before searching:
Found a very nice thread/post on it:
https://www.supramkv.com/threads/toyota-gr-supra-owner-manual-navigation.1845/

Deleted my initial post but not before you replied lol.
Anyways from a Europe manual (MY21, B58TU1 or updated motor):

Do we really need another oil thread?

I've been using 5w-40 in my Supra since 1,500 miles. 24 track days. Oil reports come back fine.

The Supra GT4 also uses 5w-40

My mechanic who works on a lot of Supras recommended 5w40 when I went in for a oil change in Florida. Apparently a lot of people with Supras in my area are using 5w40.

I'll be going with Motul 5W40 from my break in and moving forwards.

Also, flushing that god awful brake fluid out haha

I live way up in NH. Rare to see a day above 90 here and winter can obviously be quite cold. Nothing compelling to go contrary to the recommendations of Toyota just yet! I did my break in oil change with the OEM 0-20 oil and filter. I may switch at a later date to a 0-30 or 5-30 but living somewhere this mild in summer I didn’t feel the need.

I’ve used 5w40 since 1200 miles. Over 30 track days. Done oil reports and everything checks out and oil tests fine even after five track days on same oil.

The Supra GT4 used 5w40.

If I only daily drove my car year round with no track days I would probably use 0w30 or something similar.

Maybe I should think about switching to 5W-40.

I’m with ya! I first tracked with the stock 0-20 oil. Car did just fine (in the winter down here). Changed it with 5W-30 (currently running) & will bump it up to 5W-40 - since you northern folks are doing it and as Tsuki8 mentioned, it’s listed in the European manual. Oh yeah, and… Bryan has the oil data backing it up ;)

I've been using 5-30 Liquid Moly for the last 20k miles and for all of my track days. I live in CT and used to daily my car in the winter. This winter I won't be and next year I'll probably do 15-20 track days so I'll likely switch to 5-40. I'm not going to be as worried about cold temperature performance.

I normally run Amsoil 5w/30LS euro, I was considering there 5w/40, but that only
Comes in FS& MS versions, so I’ll stick
With the LS.

The EU manual reads to use only up to 2 pints for "Topping Up" using other weights, but reads to only use 0W20 for full service / oil change.
