Air to Air intercooler?

Has anyone explored the idea of converting the car to and Air to Air setup? It's got to save some weight and likely keep IAT lower. I have a shop that could make me the parts just wanted to know if it's already been done.

According to the listing it's not a conversion but an add-on (the primary intercooler would still be A2W but the charge would further be cooled A2A by the front mount). Not that it makes it less interesting... if anything possibly more interesting IMO.

It definitely will make for an even more crowded engine bay however, and I see many obscenities being shouted during install.

I realize the eBay listing is designed to augment the current configuration. And I certainly don't doubt the list of obscenities that would be shouted during install. I guess I was hoping to hear from some of the aftermarket manufacturers as to why no one explored this option other than the car is already air to water

The biggest issue I could see with it would be in the performance vs cost ratio. I would presume that adding the large A2A IC would reduce the efficiency of the stock heat exchanger by a small amount (and preclude upgrading it as well possibly). At the very least it will get slightly hotter air even if it's lined up perfectly and not obstructed.

Without test data however, it's impossible to say for sure. Seems a bit like a solution looking for a problem considering nothing but a DP and a turbo upgrade are enough to reach the limits of the transmission and fuel system.

I saw this awhile back. Honestly your money would be better spent on upgraded intake manifold.
