Has anyone purchased Android Auto dongle from Motorola? For $69.00, definitely tempted to give it a go (seems like a better alternative to swapping out the head unit).

These only work if the car actually has Android Auto to begin with.
Yeah at first I wanted to sideload Android APK only to realize the headunit is locked out. So I made this desperate attempt to buy this Motorola MA1 dongle just to try it out. You'd be correct-these dongles only enable *wiress* Android Auto and won't even load to Supra's headunit. I guess I'll just deal with it.

For anyone with the MMI, can you still use the steering wheel song skip buttons and voice control, or just the steering wheel volume controls?
I know the knob can do everything, but don't really want to lose steering wheel buttons.

I'd be more concerned about the active suspension, sport mode and software updates. Another reason why I don't like the aftermarket MMI.

I have the BimmerTech MMI installed to run an integrated front camera. It does not interfere with anything you mentioned and moreover, see no plausible way that it would do so. ?‍♂

The aftermarket MMI is just an HDMI input into the head unit. It doesn't replace the head unit and has no effect on any of the systems you listed.

Well our steering wheel doesn't really have song skip button. If you mean the scroll wheel, then yes sort of. You just have to use the idrive knob to highlight the skip buttons and then you can press the wheel in to essentially press the skip button. You can also use the skip buttons at the end of the number pad on the dash without having to highlight anything on the screen. Or you can double press the idrive knob to the right or left to go forward and backward through songs.

Volume buttons on the wheel work as intended and voice control you just have to long press to activate google assistant.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for. This would make sense why I couldn't find much info for steering wheel skip buttons etc if they don't exist.
Supra is currently en route to the dealer with an ETA of end of June so haven't really had much hands on experience yet.

I learned something new. As for the software updates, does MMI receive over the air updates, or do you need to download via bmw website?

We don't have over-the-air updates here at all but the MMI (as far as I understand what you are refering to) isn't a BMW part and is completely aftermarket, so can't imagine any of them being updated this way.

Having said this, the BimmerTech MMI is able to be updated via USB. And just to clarify, the MMI is essentially a box that is hidden away in your dash and integrates it;s functionality pretty seamlessly into the stock iDrive system. It's a bit like adding a Bluray player to your TV but still use the original TV remote to access it's features so its ability to affect the TV is pretty negligable. ?‍♂

I was looking at getting the front cam. What are your thoughts about it?

Here's my initial take. My opinion hasn't changed in the past few months and since I have moved into a tighter garage, I appreciate the camera even more.

Where are you located? Happy to give you a demo if you are local. Feel free to PM.
