Android auto retrofit with just PnP device?

Some updates in regards to my experience with this box.(i did get the PRO version(more/better cooling fans), not sure if/how bad the cooling is on the reg one).i don't think i have any heating issues, it always just felt normal. no "hot to the touch".

-i've noticed some lags/hiccups/freeze whenever i get text/other app notifications. so i turned off some sound notifications from within the Ai box, its appears to run better/ smoother now.(also close any extra apps opened from the box android os,deleted apps that i have no use.)

-HUD, i've seen a few people/reddit asking about this. guess this is a makeshift solution for those that want directions to appear on HUD(cluster included)+AA. I was able to run the in-car navigation along with AA( i was using Waze). However, obviously, the directions do not match up fully but they get you to the same destination so lol. you can mess with the route settings and what-not to your preference.[setup alternate routes/local vs highway?] In picture 4 if you zoom into the HUD display you can see the direction, sorry i wasnt able to snap a better pic to show that.

-Bonus, i was able to connect to the box bluetooth and use quickshare to transfer a pic of my car and set it as the "wallpaper" for shits n giggles.

yes that's the one, i got mine from the official site because amazon didn't have it at the time. dam its way cheaper on amazon right now with the discount/coupon.
i'm not sure if its considered the fastest one(there's ones with newer cpus out there but not enough info on them) but its been working fine for me after some tweaking around. I only use it for maps+music+obd app for a couple temps and stuff. (ignore the trans temp i had to adjust the formula to read the right temps)

Its from Torque Pro(main app,costs $5 from playstore) then install "AA Torque" onto AA. (need to enable AA developer mode/unknown resources). And yes you'd need an OBD bluetooth adapter, i'm using Obdlink CX. I wasn't able to connect obd to the Ai box itself, though i didn't really try to tinker with it much.

I'm returning mine to amazon. Had nothing but a terrible experience with it and the lag / constant disconnecting makes me believe I have a faulty unit. When I say lag, I mean 60+ seconds from the time I do the input to the time the screen updates the input. I've never seen something so bad.

Sadly it feels like a huge waste of time but thankfully I'll be refunded.

Spoke too soon. I couldn't find the way to update the software previously -I thought it was in the settings. It's an app outside of the Android auto and once the update happened, it fixed everything. It's no longer laggy and works great.


I'm glad "OMFGzilla" found my misery funny though. What a great guy

Looks like these Yolanauto boxes aren't available on Amazon anymore? Anyone buy through the site? Or should I hold out for a return to Amazon?

I tried the Bruxe R8 12+256GB. It has a much newer processor and more memory. The lag was much better (felt like a first-party carplay/android auto on a late model BMW). It also has 5G support if you wanted to get a tablet or data sim card and not even bother with your phone.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get any audio to come through. I lost patience with the WhatsApp support that would take 12 hours to respond to every message. I ended up returning it, but it seemed promsing.

Runs great. If you look in my forum posting history this box is what I've been seeking for a long time.

Be sure to follow the instructions in the thread above to install and be patient. Updating firmware takes a long time.

Positives:
Loads fairly quickly after I start up my car (w/in 1 minute or so)
Screen is responsive to touch
No need to tear apart my dash
Allowed me to install JBV1 with my Valentine 1 v2 radar detector ... better than any Apple detector apps by far (I've tested them)
I run a split screen with JBV1 and Waze, which is pretty cool and fun. See radar alerts, map my drive and just looks cool.

Negatives:
Not cheap.
Sometimes randomly freezes or reboots. Not a lot, but sometimes.
Radio and podcast apps sometimes conflict and knock out my warning audio from JBV1 and Waze. I think there may be a workaround but still works for me.

Overall positives outweigh the negatives.

Check it out if you can find one.

You do understand you sound like an idiot right? The MMI solutions do not have the same functionality and cost twice as much. You are saying you would rather have 500 milliseconds less lag but have to use the stupid dial to interact...... Your argument is completely illogical.

But you will be happy to know that I can confirm that Display mode 3 also cuts the lag on my unit by half. It's very snappy.. Guess it's even more game changing now

I haven't really gone though most of the settings, I did mess with the display modes before but didn't immediately see a difference so went back. But I wasn't also looking specifically for lag. Good find @sharkcat
