Really just depends on not only the dealer but if Toyota calls for checking what oil is in the engine if there is a failure. It does technically states in the owners manual that they only recommend 0w20 and 0w30, however, there are other oils that are approved in bmws owners manual running the same engine.

It really would be up to the manufacturer if they were to deny or approve a claim. It's always your call when changing something on the car since things can get denied over very stupid things and I've seen it happen before

So far I haven't modded mine enough I'm worried about getting denied on anything except maybe wheel bearings but I'd much rather have studs than the stupid lug bolts. So yes currently I've still got 7 years or something till mine is up or 100k ?

Good luck with those extended warranties.

I use them all the time at work (almost everyday). Have you had back luck in the past? I went with a manufacturer one since it was about the same price as the one I could have gotten from where I work.

I was mainly joking. In the end, like you said, it's up to the owner.

I specifically bought the Supra to modify so IDGAF about a warranty, plus mine is already up even if I hadn't modded it.

Could still get that extended warranty, good till 2030 or 100k ?(edited cause I forgot yours was a 2020).

I actually thought about dropping the factory one and getting the one from where I work if I mod the car. This way I can still get stuff covered and would be easier so I could swap stuff out if needed for warranty purposes.

Per the manual, 0W-30 can only be used as a top up (up to 1 quart)

Can other people buy extended warranties through your company?

Yes, however, they do require an inspection on the car prior to purchase to verify there are no issues currently with the vehicle. This may not matter, however, if the car is still under factory warranty or new vehicle warranty

Warranty question. With the Toyota manual explicitly calling for LL-17FE 0W-20 oil, if one were to use an LL-01 or LL-04 oil and have engine failure what are the chances of a denied warranty claim?

Stock engine here and doing more and more track days in the Supra, but still trying to maintain that warranty :D
This question is nothing new. I’ve known a few dealership owners & brought this up before. I was told they usually (but not always) inspect oil level, condition and review your maintenance records. That’s it. The burden is on the manufacturer to prove the oil caused the problem. The only way they are sending out the oil is if they suspect improper oil caused the failure. As long as you meet the minimum specifications set by the manufacturer, you are good to go. What Bryan and many other are using, exceed the manufacturer’s specifications. It’d be hard to prove Motul (or similar brands) have shitty oil. And there’s no way they are wasting their time with that - if you’ve been changing it regularly. Yes 0W-40 is superior. But it ain’t cheap either.

Based on an oil analysis from the Toyota 0w-20 vs. Amsoil Euro 0w-30, total wear metals went from 21ppm to 15ppm, so about a 40% difference with the main difference being iron content. My goal was to use an oil that at least met the SP spec and had a HTHS of at least 3.5 and a NOACK volatility of less than 10%. Since I still daily drive my Supra in all temps, I also decided not to go to a different winter rating hence the 0w-30. The oil sample for the Toyota oil was at around 15000 vehicle miles with 5k on the oil. The Amsoil was two changes into switching over to avoid any impacted of dilution or mixing with the Toyota oil. 22,700 vehicle miles and about 3k on the Amsoil. Yes, I know the Amsoil drain interval was shorter, but it was scheduled around a track day. Plus, I wouldn’t expect a ton of difference since I don’t do overly long drain intervals regardless.

Either way, the oil I’m going with at the moment definitely doesn’t seem to do any worse than the Toyota oil and I’m confident that it’ll hold up to the one or two track days I usually do between oil changes. My car has also never burned any oil as far as I’m aware on either the Toyota or Amsoil oil. Vehicle is not tuned and only has an AA catted downpipe.

Do you drive your Supra during Winter months? What would you say is lowest and highest ambient temps during which you have driven? Where I live, they are 40F - 90F.

Yes, I drive my Supra year round. Temps typically anywhere from near zero to over 100F. Although, the coldest temp since I’ve lived in Oklahoma was close to -30F.

Then 0W-30 oil makes sense.? I've been using 5W-20 (factory fill) in my MX5....so far, so good. My Supra now has 6200 miles on it with 0W-20. I may send some of the next change to get tested.
