I think you need to look at the bigger picture my friend. Sure it isn't huge numbers like a Mustang or Camaro, but still pretty good for a $50k+ car. So basically a month or two of C7's sales could be a year worth for the FT-1.

You think Toyota will only sell 2,500-5,000 Supras a year?? Even the MKIV sold more than that per year.
I don't think it did. Something like 2,000-3,000 per year. Less if you only count Turbos (about half).

Damn I was way off, thanks for the stats guys. That's so few! Not even 2,000 units most of the last few years.

What a difference that was from the mi-late 80s. Any chance Toyota could be looking to sell that many a year again? Or not way cuz the Supra has forever moved upmarket since the MKIV generation?

this is debatable, but some view MKI-MKII as a higher trim Celica. the MK1-MKIII were cheaper cars. i dont think the Supra will ever see those kinda of numbers again. right now Toyota can barely sell 20,000 units of the FRS.

Because the FR-S exists in the $20-30k space for Toyota and they've said that the Supra will positioned be above the FR-S, it'll likely come in at the same relative pricing and positioning of the MKV Supra.

That puts it at even less than the niche Mustangs in the same price range like the GT500 and probably the upcoming GT350. They sell about 5K a year I think. I'm sure the Supra can steal some sales from the domestic C7, GT350 etc but it will never come close to their numbers.

Seems like the Supra MKV may be priced in the ballpark of a M4 coupe which starts in the mid 60's but the M4 coupe seems to sell pretty well. Why wouldn't the Supra sell just as well? Is it a matter of perceived quality at this price range, with a German brand more 'worth the money' at the same price range? The performance of the Supra should at least match if not top the M3/M4 when it comes out.

$60s is not a lot for a BMW but quite a bit for a Toyota. Also a lot might think of the M4 as a more daily driveable vehicle offering more luxury and wider appeal.

But I agree with you. I expect the Supra to outperform the M4 by a significant margin, being smaller, lighter and more powerful. Seems like an easy sell.

agreed about the badge part. i bet it would sell even more if Toyota were to sale it as a Lexus.

Before I bought my frs, I walked into a Lexus dealer to test their sports sedans, and when I asked, it seemed they had nothing under 4,000 pounds...the salesman suggested I go test drive a Frs. The rest is history....

By the way I'll take that 200 pounder of yours if you can find me one! ;)
