Hey guys

I currently own an A90 Supra and running the BM3 Stage 2 OTS map.

Very happy with the tune overall but wanted to see if a custom tune from Ecutek would maximize power within the safe limits of the engine and ensure smoother power delivery ?

The mods I currently have are a Catless DP, HKS air filter and HKS exhaust. I have NO plans to add further mods to the current setup.

Appreciate thoughts from folks that made the switch from BM3 OTS Stage 2 to Ecutek ? Was it worth the jump ?

Thanks

I'm just going to say that you're asking for skewed opinions because your question statement is incorrect as it's missing a crucial step.
You're on BM3 OTS. BM3 has tuners and you can even open up the tables and tune it yourself, if you have the means...
I get that due to lack of people NOT reporting their custom BM3 tune results, you assume EcuTek is the only way, but it isn't. FYI, I'm in no way suggesting either is good or bad, just facts...

Hence the question indirectly - there are glowing reviews on ecutek on the forum and ppl have claimed its a more advanced platform than BM3. I am not an expert and just stating what i have observed.

Is it worth doing a custom Bm3 tune if the platform isnt as "advanced" as Ecutek as ppl claim ? If thats the case does it make sense to jump to Ecutek altogether rather than waste $$ on a custom Bm3 tune on a platform that ppl claim is not as "advanced" as ecutek.

Objective opinions from folks that have used both welcome.

Twisted tunning tunes both, Iā€™d message him and get his opinion. No sense in spending all that money to switch

Rather than typing it all over. See below for my response to a similar question. To where someone used the supra running 9s and 8s before all the other B58 BMWs.

Just to add on top of what Justin wrote, BM3 and MHD are both working on extra features such as tables for flex fuel tuning, on the fly map switching, rolling anti lag, on the fly burble settings, and even exhaust flap control.

So a lot of the features that many people chose Ecutek for will also be available on the other platforms. You just have to wait a little.

For me having the rom files in my PC is the real deal, if the BM3 servers go down, anything, you won't have access to your tunes. Maybe I am too old school.

You are not alone, cloud storage is no doubt convenient, but having a local copy is always better and makes you sleep well.

Remember you can download it and have it offline. Doesn't have to be on the cloud.

BM3 also has some new option in beta and im looking forward to it (flex fuel, antilag, and quick map switch.)

Bm3 map switch

Anti lag

Flex fuel

Im not bias and ecutek and other tuning platform are great. Since you have BM3 already you can get custom tune. suggest waiting for the release of the new features cause I am.

BM3 is great, however the features have been promised for a year now, and likley when they come out it will be for S55/N55 first, not B58.

EcuTek has proven Flex Fuel, and now has the ability to control port injection. EcuTek has specialised development time just for Supra. No other company is doing that. The future of this platform is EcuTek

Went BM3 and never looked back. Just waiting for them to release all the other goodies. Theyā€™re basically done on S55 and next up is B58 and Supra last time I checked with them. Ecutek doesnā€™t have some things I like on the Supra such as flashing from a phone. I donā€™t want to buy a windows laptop just to try it. Iā€™m a graphics artist by trade and the ecutek app looks pretty crappy compared to others. My friend also has issues with the Bluetooth ecutek kit all the time even after talking to his tuner and Ecutek about it so the app and that kit for him is practically useless. Maybe they can fix it I donā€™t know but heā€™s not the only one speaking to a few others. MHD and BM3 are also a lot cheaper and come with lots of things you can do on your own without being dependent on some custom tuner to make it for you. Pros and cons I feel to everything.

Good post, a lot of info.

For months BM3 has almost been done with their advanced features, the reality is it doesn't exist.
The videos have given people a lot of hope for the future of BM3, but some don't want to wait anymore. They want Flex Fuel NOW, they want map on-the-fly map switching NOW, they want to control port injection RIGHT NOW (BM3 won't even have this). Even MHD has started to release some of their new features, but like BM3 it's not on this platform.

Not sure what kind of problems your friend is having with his ECU Connect interface, I'm sure if it was a big problem he'd be online griping about it, not you. In any case EcuTek will replace the interface if it's giving him problems. He's welcome to reach out to me and I'll get him a new one in the mail tomorrow with a return label for his old one.

Phone flashing is in EcuTek's future and will be 100% wireless, which BM3 is not. Like BM3's advanced features, EcuTek' phone flashing is not here. For most customers this isn't a problem, EcuTek already has on-the-fly map switch, on-the-fly burble adjustment and my favorite - Flex Fuel. The best part about EcuTek is not having to keep flashing the ECU.

For those who really want to dive into editing their tune file, BM3 is for you. I warn you though, these ECUs aren't that easy to tune, this isn't ECU Flash on a EVO8.

When BM3 was the only true tuning option for Supra my biggest issue was having to be online to edit and flash the tune into the car. It was a nightmare when at the track supporting cars.

Different strokes for different folks

I did some digging and realized that if you donā€™t plan to upgrade the cars turbo, using the ECUTek is a waste of money. They can tune it to 450hp on 93 octane, downpipe, intake, and gas pump upgrades. 500 hp with e50.

so personally, I will just get a JB4 and the parts mentioned to get a decent 425hp. If I plan on doing more with the car, Iā€™ll get a pure800 turbo and then the ecutek tune

Wow there pal! Take it easy. Chill pill? You seem a little too militant about it all. I just like what I like and have no issues waiting for reasons I mentioned. Different strokes dude. Peace āœŒ
