Has anyone experienced this? Brand new pure 900 only 200-300 miles on it, was on the 4th day when i completed my revisions when i started to hear a loud whine on acceleration and a huge struggle to build boost. i parked the car at my house and waited for it to cool down to check if my chargepipe came loose or what. Everything looked normal so i took it to my mechanic who had a smoke tester, he checked the turbine wheel and noticed that the blades were damaged. After 4 days a brand new turbo the blades were damaged. it worked flawlessly up till then everything was going smooth i was on my complete tune with my tuner. It’s under warranty but im just baffled that this happened. Scared to move forward with pure if this is a common problem. Should i just bite the bullet and get a doc race kit? Car is a manual by the way if that matters at all.. compression surge or whatever lol.

I was doing baby pulls for my mic when it happened, you can hear at the end when it starts to whine. after that is when i let it cool off then took it to mechanic.

Him saying "I just work here" is a red flag to me. Seeing these turbos have journal type bearings and need oil to function well. I believe something was missed during installation.

I understand where you may be coming from but working with keith for as long as i have that’s how he talks. i trust keith with everything as he also had a hybrid supra too and a highly reputable shop and he does complete engine break downs and transmission rebuilds, and installed many turbos on various cars. He’s the go to for our florida supra group chat mechanic and has installed more pure turbos on these cars then most shops lol. just an unfortunate faulty turbo.

Hybrids are a gamble. You have to understand that these types of companies quality control is nothing compared to the likes of Garrett or BorgWarner. Stuff like this will happen. Get it repaired under warranty or switch to the Doc Race kit.
Hopefully, they still have the BorgWarner kit; otherwise, you'll have to buy their Precision kit which won't have the internally gated exhaust housing. I hate Precision.

Hybird companies are the local little league, engineered for Street pulls.

and the other is the MLB, engineered for 24 hour le mans or Pikes Peak.

Yeah i see what you mean. My luck with hybrids is terrible. i had an omega v2 before this (used) and the wastegate eye link and wastegate arm was a nightmare to dial in just to find out the v2 backside housing is entirely too big for quick spool on manual. that’s why i went 900 and was indefinitely better but then this happened. I want to get it warranted and then most likely sell it/ save up for a full frame

Also true. At 200K rpm a lot of things can go wrong. Still in the camp of "rather taking my chances with the tier 1 OEMs" but that's just me.

Get it warranty, slap it back on it’ll be fine. Sort of the same boat for me. I have a DAW6769 that leaks oil exhaust and intake side from day one, always had opr on it to, I’ve always said it was just built on a Friday. Know many others with the same turbo, no opr, with no problems. 🤷🏼‍♂️
