Car and Driver just published their 10 Best list and the Supra is back on it. For me, the most impressive accomplishment is that the entire GR Lineup made it on the list! Gazoo Racing is doing great work - can’t wait to see what they do next.

There is also some interesting artwork for each car on the list:

I know they need to appeal to everyone but any front wheel drive car making the list ? ?

As usual, C&D is jerking off to a freaking Honda Accord, even the new Ford Fusion looking one with its wimpy powertrains.
Accords are genius, my daily is a 6speed accord. The sum of their engineering is greater than the value of their parts. The turbo engines are more than adequate. Having driven just about every sedan out there, one needs double the money for just a little bit more car.

Front wheel drive cars are not performance cars, i don’t care what anybody says. You don’t see front wheel drive Ferraris or Lamborghinis or mclarens

Depends what your definition of performance car is. A lot of people will argue the Civic Type R is more of a performance car over something like a 2023 Z, despite being a hatch with 4 seats. The Z is dull and lifeless in comparison, but because it's a two seater with RWD, does that make it more of a performance car?

Not many here in the states, but plenty of hot hatches across the pond in Europe. Hell would freeze over before you could call a Renault Megane R26R "not a performance car".

Yeah the civic type r may be more engaging and nimble than the Z, but ultimately it’s a sporty version of an economy car. The Z is just a low effort, lazy recycled performance car.

I mean they can be decently quick and handle well but fwd is an inherently compromised platform that prioritizes being cheap over serious performance. Nothing against front wheel drive, it’s a good way to save gas and money for a commuter car, and if Honda or Renault wants to make a sportier version more power to them, just don’t think of it as a legit sports car

Wait, are we trying to define the term “sports car” or “performance car”?

Up until 1998, I would have agreed with you. I meet a lot of jort-wearing, white New Balance-having retirees that tell me the same as your posts, so I've heard it all quite a bit.

Yes come here and enjoy Hot Hatches. They are fun. Respectable performance and value. People should drive first then give an opinion. Performance is not a narrow window or definition.

Well front wheel drive cars have come a long way and they’re the best they’ve ever been, but given the choice between rear and front most would choose rear drive. Rear has better driving dynamics

Yeah I guess they didn’t specify best for what. I just assume “best” means line em up and put them on a track ?. Wrong assumption ofc. My wife absolutely loves her GTI. I personally wouldn’t track it over my Supra. So no dissing the front wheel drive family but when Honda made the S2000, I went out and bought one. With @Supraboi7 100% - ability to power those rear wheels is a must for any “best” list Imo ?
