I went to a local shop to see if they could have my alignment done. They said they could not do it due to not having the tools to recalibrate because I have adaptive cruise control? I did do some searching for some answers and didn’t find a clear answer. Hoping someone can chime in if I do need to go to a bmw specialty shop? I just need some camber pulled out and toe fixed.

It's a real thing. That's the BMW way, far too much tech than is really needed, and enough instructions and special crap to make you give up and go to a dealer.

I can't say if you actually have to do it, though I doubt it because the car doesn't know if you've loosened and tightened the alignment related bolts underneath. Nor what happens if you don't do it, or how bad it is, which is probably not bad at all and you'd never even notice. But yes, you are in theory supposed to recalibrate the other things afterwards.

I'm guessing it's related to the steering wheel angle sensor or something. If it's not off to start with I'd kind of bet nothing at all will actually change.

You might be able to sign a waiver? Pay cash and don't ask for a receipt? Find another shop that doesn't know?

Fake news. Rule of thumb though is don’t press a shop that doesn’t want to touch your car.

have had probably 7 or 8 alignments done on my car. Never needed to clear codes or “calibrate” anything. Even the TIS doesn’t state anything like that, and they go way over the top in regards to procedures.

*edit with TIS attached

I guess I’ll go ahead and have it done somewhere else then if it’s not a big problem. I had the car aligned at the dealer when I initially lowered it. Just wasn’t happy with it

I’m just kidding (bad attempt at a joke). The manuals don’t have adaptive cruise and I will miss it.

The BMW alignment procedure looks like it's written to mitigate litigation and generate money for dealerships or particular approved alignment shops. Pretty common these days the litigation umbrella.

I've done a bunch of alignments on my car with hub stands without calibrating anything.

The only time I had a problem was when the front toe was wayyy off because I had to move the car before I finished the alignment...long story. It threw a chassis/steering alignment error code. Once I fixed the alignment and cleared the codes it was fine.
