Hi everyone. I just got my AMS Catless downpipe installed. I get the smell of a muscle car when at a stop light or sitting in traffic with the windows down, but when i am driving i dont smell anything. I am still waiting on my ecutek to come in so its on a stock tune. I thought the smell would be normal, but im told i could have an exhaust leak. Anyone with this downpipe experience the same thing?

Welcome to catless life. If you're not chasing absolute power, a catless downpipe IMO is not worth it (did it once in a younger life). A sports cat should be good up to 650 HP.

that is what i figured. Im told it could get a little better with the tune. I'll give it a shot for year with the catless and if its unbearable ill sell it and get a catted.

Interesting analogy there.
Anyhow you removed the exhaust fume cleaning device. Smell is normal...

Having said that, you could have caused a leak. I believe if it's leaking you could be getting an error code thru OBD. If it's so small of a leak maybe not.
I've seen several similar leakage posts. Tuners I'm sure can help you identify and narrow the cause down..

I haven’t received any error codes as of yet. Is there a certain sound I should be looking out for to hear an exhaust leak?

Hate to say it will smell the same exact thing with a tune

With an aftermarket catback it will smell even worse

check engine light went on this morning as expected. Ecutek coming in tomorrow so not worried about the light. I dont know what to look for in terms of hearing a leak. I dont hear any ticking or what not. The smell this morning wasn't that bad. Windows down with a slight head wind so no smell in the car. I am assuming if the windows are up and no smell inside then i should be good.

Its just weird that someone i talked to with a catless pipe said he didnt smell any difference from changing from stock. My area really doesn't have any tuner shops or anything like that around so options are limited.

If you smell fuel inside the cabin with the windows up, you got a leak.
If it's only with the windows down, then you are good.

I'm also curious as my Supra is the first car I've ever done modifications to. I went with a catless DP and I do notice quite a bit of smell when sitting at a stop light or so but while driving it goes away. However I've noticed that after a hard acceleration I get smoke that comes out of my exhaust that changes the smell of the fumes. Doesn't smell like burnt oil or anything but is that normal? I've maybe put 100 miles on the car since DP install and just a handful of hard accelerations in that time so I wasn't sure if this is expected?

Okay awesome, thank you for that. The first time it happened my stomach dropped. First thought was "blown turbo" lol. My mind is at ease now

When I did my research I looked at performance and quality of the product. I got several different answers from people I knew about cat vs catless smells. I rolled the dice and on castles but not a fan after a few rides. My asthma is sensitive to the smell. I will probably go back to stock before my Ecutek tune with Mikey Botti. Not sure the extra power is worth the hassle.
