That’s the concern with my current CM setup with the hrb, it’s failed once and I had to wait on CM for replacements which they did send to me. I had to pay for install/labor that was pricey but am worried it could fail again. When and if it fails I’m wondering if I should do a new clutch like PTB or use the stock fork setup, something for me to think about.
The clutch and flywheel seem robust and work well. It's the HRB which is unreliable

Nothing wrong with the stock fork set up which has been used for a hundred years or more. I suspect the current HRB design is more to do with economies of build than any mechanical advantage. IE less parts density and machining operations and assembly line simplification equals cheaper construction costs not necessarily a better clutch package. Add to that any hydraulic seal failure is a major issue and the hydraulic slave cylinder and fluid is much closer to any heat from the clutch and I fail to see any significant advantage and a few disadvantages. The only real issue with a fork actuation set up is a few pivot point wear areas but they have never really been a big issue in years gone by.
unfortunately my thoughts was buying the optional parts with the clutch kit, would give me the best experience possible.

Just the They send you a repair kit lol.

The first time they replaced the HRB, the second time they sent a repair kit and told me I need to repair it when it fails.

Which i'm not willing to accept. At this point i'm in contact with other owners of this kit, everyone I know who bought the HRB had an early failure. Everyone. 100% failure rate.

I think we'll have to do something collectively.
I don’t know why they still selling their HRB for their customers if it fails 100%. Even if they send a replacement or repair kit, that is not a solution. Labor work is not free. CM thinks the HRB located in the engine bay or what?

you should be fine with stock fork as far as I know, the HRB is the main issue there.

This is unacceptable. I'm so happy I didn't fit this clutch. I've heard a lot of complaints about clutchmaster's clutches from other platforms too. I think sending a repair kit for a product that is (not fit for purpose) is a joke.

I ordered the PTB clutch with the DMF. Hopefully early next year I will be able to fit it and give a review on the clutch with the DMF.

A big thank you to mayday and everyone else for putting this information out there. I'm sure it saved me a lot of time money and stress :banghead:

Happy new year

You’re welcome. I already installed PTB clutch with SMF and I’m just waiting for the clutch master cylinder part to be delivered because as you know, Clutch Masters HRB ruined my clutch master cylinder and I can’t find the part here in Qatar.
New year, new clutch

Sorry to see the trouble, I don't think I've ever seen positive feedback on CM... Anywhere. I would hope they would be genuinely interested in the failure and ask you to return the broken parts to do some sort of investigation and give some explanation of why parts failed. If this is something that has been falling apart on other cars with similar circumstances, they have no business to keep selling them.

Did they at least acknowledge its a known problem and they have a fix or recommendations going forward?

This YouTuber put a CM twin disc on his G87 M2 and makes it sound like he's not worried. Looks like hes using factory hydraulics tho. Of course hes biased since he sells CM stuff so take with grain of salt.

Anyway get the car back on the road and enjoy it! ?

I really appreciate their support but what’s the point of replacing the HRB if I know it’s going to fail again. Let’s say I would like to get a replacement, I’m going to eat the shipping cost to send my HRB from Qatar to USA so they can inspect it and send me a new one and I will eat the shipping cost again from USA to Qatar. There is no way I would take that risk again even if they are going to send me a new one for free. The labor costs aren’t free after all.

Also, I don’t think they know that their HRB has an issue with MK5 owners, unless the affected customers are complaining about it and share it with CM maybe?

I’m still waiting the vendor to respond to me.

This would be somewhat my thought process as well. Looks like I’m a just get the clutch & flywheel when I decide to upgrade.

Sorry for the loss you had to take, but glad you can inform current and future MT owners. Hope you get your car running again soon.

thank you, yes this is the main reason I wrote my experience with CM HRB I just don’t want any MT owners falling into the same trap that i did in the future.

Might consider removing it before failure

wait for it… lol

when you notice pedal pressure isn’t as stiff as it used to be, you’re close!

It seems that Clutch Masters is denying a redund.

The vendor A90shop that I bought the clutch kit from is trying his best to get me a refund and he is still trying with them.
