Just got back from having the brake recall done. I put the factory tune back on with Bootmod3 before taking it in. Got the car back, checked the sport gauges and max horsepower was 400, I hit 339hp MAX on my way home from the dealer.

Figured what the heck, I'll see if I can load the stage 1 tune, worked perfectly. Sport gauge is now back to 480 max and I hit 432hp (and still have fullscreen carplay).

I'd heed this advice very very very carefully - as it's a good way to brick your ECU, especially with ECUTek. I'd just before around this. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(also - those HP displays are bullshit, that's 100% not the actual amount of power you are putting down, it's simply not possible to calculate that.). It is, however, a decent indicator that flashing did something.

I'm not advising anyone to do anything and simply used the sport gauges as, like you said, an indicator.

Fact of the matter is, it is not guaranteed that the brake fix will lock the DME. Before I had mine bench unlocked, I couldn't even load a tune.

Legitimate question, what is the definition of "if you were already tuned" mean? Had a non stock map loaded when you took your car in for the update or had a non stock map load at any point in time?

I had the stock map loaded when I took my car in. Was I "tuned" or not?

It refers to the 'ability to be tuned.' You had a tune before you had the recall done, it just wasn't active.

Just so that it's clearer for everyone, not sure if it changes anything with the recall update/lock, but with BM3 when you reverted back to Stock tune , did you press the FLASH AND RELOCK DME (which is default setting) or pressed "JUST FLASH (NO DME LOCK) ?
Recall is assumed to lock it regardless, but just wondering...

Also, what model year and built date is yours... I'm asking because yours seem to be a one off tunable one for now..

I did flash and relock before taking it in for the recall. I just got done talking with protuning freaks, they wanted to see the attached screenshot. They said it didn't appear the dealer did the recall, but I have full screen carplay... so the dealer did something.

Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones...

maybe they only did the iDrive update... with Toyota dealers not knowing all the intricate details of the BMW recall procedures, who knows if they skipped/failed/etc..

Yeah, your Registration IDs and Current are the same..

So, don't go pressing start button twice :D

I would advise others to not do what OP did. Get your ecu bench unlocked so you're not left with a useless car.

Yeah I'm almost positive it is. Between your DME not being locked and it still showing the same ID as before, I'm pretty confident they didn't actually flash your ECU and you still need to have the recall performed.

Do we know what the current IDs should be after the fix?

Why can’t we just take these to a BMW dealership? Joking, but no, seriously…
