Paying cash isn’t the negotiating tactic you seem to think it is.
cash means nothing to dealerships, if anything they’d rather you finance and get a kickback from the bank

Yea between that and the fact he doesn't know what OTD actually means, it's ironic the thread title is "Dealer BS".

I'm all about not putting up with dealer BS but let's really be honest here, this is not one of those times.

I was waiting for this, good luck with your “negotiations”.
Look, I appreciate the constructive feedback but you repeatedly saying I don't know what OTD means is excessive and rude. The entire point of forums like this is to share thoughts, experiences, and most importantly...gain knowledge. All you had to say was "the OTD price includes all taxes and fees" Done, end of story. It's not that serious man. Cheers!?

I remember the first time I posted on a forum.

Also, “out the door” is self explanatory.

With new Supras being difficult to come by on dealer lots... I honestly think you would be doing well to find a dealer willing to discount the car by $1000-$1500 off msrp. Most are obtaining msrp and sometimes a bit over msrp.

And just when you thought you negotiated a good deal... watch out for the dealer add ons ... they come on strong in favor of the dealer and profits (ceramic coating, vin etching, processing fee, etc). They may even call all these mandatory with every new car purchase. BS.

I agree, once you low balled, the dealer does not feel you are serious and moved on, not spending a lot of time with you. Also, otd in some states is different than other states. Like in Missouri, you don’t pay your taxes to the dealership, you take the info to the dmv and pay the taxes and registration fees there. The state is looking to change this, but we will see. Good luck on finding a Supra. There are dealers who sell at msrp, but now that articles coming out saying the Supra is coming to an end in 1-2 years, there will not be much negotiating.

I emailed probably 15 dealers earlier this month who had a supra in stock or incoming. Of that, perhaps 12 responded.

Of that, a couple were priced over msrp. Two would not sell to me out of state. A few didn't even bother to respond to my offer. The remainder were at msrp, only two would negotiate. One was reasonable, the other took a lot of work. Even with a better price and closer to me, I went with the other dealer, the reasonable folks.

Easiest way to negotiate is talk MSRP only (discounted or above it) w/out any junk fees. They know what junk fees are. It’s anything not required to sell you the car. You can’t get around tax, title, tag, dealer fee, etc. So no need to discuss it. Stick to negotiating what they can control only. Once you agree upon a selling price, then ask for the final price out the door. Have them send you a quote. This will ensure there are no junk fees - again. Ask about anything you don’t understand. You’ll know very quickly a dealer that wants to sell a car and help you, vs one that wants to hide those junk fees or other services they are trying to sell.

Lastly, they may get a kick back from using their bank. So be it. If it’s no cost to you, and they’ll give you a further discount. Do it if it’ll save you even more money! Just make sure there is no prepayment penalties when you do pay off the car.

I bought mine in 2023, priced at 56k the dealer maeked 5k over it, waited 1 month for it to arrive, and paid for it and left lol. If you really want the car you'll get it. If not there are other cars. I bought my 2023 highlander the same day paid 41k for it though they wanted 45k. Some cars you just gotta cough up the money for.
