The asymmetry of the air duct isn’t an issue for me, I actually kinda like it. But I’m intrigued to see how your tow hook solution will function(?) & what it'll look like.
I just cut a hole into the plastic cover, so that the tow hook protrudes out neatly. Pretty easy DIY.

Was thinking something like this. I'll probably need to make a new thread and see if there is interest.

Test fitted the tow hook prototype for the other side. Now everything matches .

Like the symmetry! Will you still be able to access the OEM tow hook receiver for things like a front license plate mount to screw into?

I'm curious to know if the tow hook is functional or just cosmetic?

It will be fully functional. The tow hook will be one piece and stronger than those fold down ones with the hinge. Still deciding on the final alloy to use, but I’m leaning towards 304 stainless for its corrosion resistance. It will be designed to be used and abused.

You won’t be able to just unscrew it because of how the cover surrounds the tow hook. However, I do plan on creating a license plate mount add-on that attaches to the end of the tow hook and can be easily removed for track days or when the hook needs to be used. Depends on interest though.

I suggest you offer the license plate mount. Would also be nice to have other finish options available for the tow-hook. Carbon fiber with burnt titanium and I’m in.

Bad idea guys

Folding tow hooks are not necessarily bad. I have a folding Cusco and it's great. The non-folding Perrin is nothing but a show piece. Ask me how i know.

304 is not a good choice of material. Crap yield strength. Carbon fiber is obv a big no. Strong is pulled in a straight line (anisotropic) but that's never going to be the case. So it shatters. And you get pelted by shards and die.

Cusco uses chromoly for the shank (to resist shearing) and carbon steel for the hook. If you're building a 1 piece unit just go 4140 chromoly and powder coat it.

One thing that I was concerned about was the carbon content in 304. Might not be as strong as other alloys. I’ve seen other “premium” aftermarket tow hooks made with 304, but I’ll definitely look into chromoly and do a comparison. I would rather do a PVD coat instead of a powder coat for its scratch resistance for repeated wear, but I’ll get a few samples made and see what material and coating is most suitable and durable.

You have an FD! It looks good! I used to have one red like that, but they crashed me on the back and sandwiched me into the car in front :( so it was totalled. So sad...

Ruh roh, what happened? I bought the Perrin because I already had the Perrin license plate mount.
