I went back and forth with my tuner several times with turning different monitors on, and the GESI cat in the ETS downpipe always threw a MIL error when the heated oxygen sensor monitor was enabled. After I went back to the OEM downpipe it was still rejected because the catalyst monitor would always report "unsupported" and that only went away when I flashed the stock calibration file.

Since I didn't have visibility of the tuned calibration file in the editor, I can't say for certain if enabling the catalyst is just not available in the EcuTek racerom software or if my tuner was incompetent/indifferent. ?ā€ā™‚
Yea totally, I wasn't challenging you. Just adding my own experience.

It's been a while and I wanted to follow-up on this. @visconti is correct, there's no way to pass emissions testing without the OEM cataylic converter sub assembly and the stock ROM calibration file.

I tried buying four different used OEM catalytic converters and was burned on each deal, so I bit the bullet and bought a new part from Toyota (and paid a king's ransom for it). After swapping that back onto the car and flashing the ECU with the stock ROM calibration file from EcuTek's library, I was able to pass without issue.

Let this be a lesson to everyone, if you need to pass emissions at some point don't sell your OEM downpipe.
Exactly why I kept my oem downpipe tucked away safely.

To amend my point based on what @razorlab said, don't sell the OEM downpipe until you are absolutely certain you will never need it again.

I was originally going to keep mine "just in case" but the service advisor at the shop I initially went to talked me into selling it to them, not realizing it would become a huge problem for me later.

Might have missed it, but california?

If so, any issues with ECU checksum verification running stock rom + ecutek?

It’s in Virginia, but we follow California emissions standards in the counties and cities which have emissions testing.

There were no problems passing the test with the "stock" calibration file from Ecutek.

I think every state/location/shop is going to be slightly different.

I passed no issues with a GESI catted DP and as close to stock values ROM as possible. However it was still a bootmod multimap ROM ID. I had to modify the ROM only so that the code for the aftermarket turbo that deletes the crankcase heater wouldn't trip a CEL. To be clear, CEL for 02 sensor or anything else WAS NOT turned off. OEM values.

In a state that checks the CVN values, this would not pass, as I altered the ROM for that crankcase heater cel.
hey mate

in your config what exactly did you set to OEM values? How long did it take for the monitors to ready? What drive cycle did you follow? Looking for help on this matw

I’ve got my oem dp on, but im on the rev2 setup.

I have evap deleted, im wondering if I need to fully install that.

Everything except for coding out the heater.
so you stayed in the ā€˜tune’ map but edited the parameters? I’ve heard folks say it’s absolute must to flash stock. I’m in ny as well.

so am I ok to stay on my tune you think? Just edit parameters?

No, I used a stage 0 BIN (so BIN ID and CVN changes) and just coded out the heater.

The OTS maps usually have the DP coded out and that will make it so the 02 tests never get set.

Stage 0 bin?

is this just the customrom convert of the stock file?

also, would you mind letting me know what drive cycle / how long it took for the monitors to start reading?

Yes correct. I also did the same this year with MHD. Actually this year I kept my tune on since I have S58 injectors/HPFP, put OEM DP on, set DP back to OEM in MHD, did the cycles to get the monitors to pass, then passed inspection.

I got pretty good at being able to run all the monitors in about an hour or so. You have to do a bunch of different style driving.

This helped:
