So I finally figured out how to put the car in neutral without going underneath the car.
The car has to be in a no start situation. For example unplugging an injector or coil pack. It’s a little unorthodox but better than climbing under the car

Hold start button and brake
Push shifter into neutral
Let shifter reset
Push into neutral
Let shifter reset
Hold shifter in neutral for 5 seconds.

Car will stay in neutral for
15 minutes

Did it keep showing neutral on your dashboard until it went back to park after the 15 min expiry?
Mine will go into neutral but will show Park after a good 10 seconds, although my infotainment screen shows that the car is in an emergency neutral state.
Just curious because my started died and I’m trying to get ready for the tow truck.
Thanks!

It’s been a bit I but I may have had to insert the seatbelt to keep it in neutral

No luck. Just tried it and it still goes back to Park after a few seconds. :(

Outside of that the only other thing I can think of is it needing to see rotation to keep it in neutral. The good news is you got the hardest part out of the way which is getting it into neutral

I’m in the same situation.
Can only get the vehicle into N for a short time, but then how do you get the electric park brake to release.
Car won’t crank, so I need a tow to Toyota.
Can’t get the car onto a tow truck because it’s facing the wrong way for the tow point and can’t get neutral.
Tow company wants $560 to do an extraction using dollies.
Frustrated beyond belief.

Remove any of your rear wheel center caps, you’ll find a screw (if I remember right, a big Hex screw head). That screw is what keep the axle attached. Remove that screw and your diff will become disengaged so the car will roll freely.

You gotta put something in the wheel to stop it from rolling because once you loosen that screw, the car will roll on its own weight if slightly sloped.

That’s how BMW dealerships keep the cars in neutral on their shops and that’s how I found out about this amazing, easy method.

That 02 Collar Screw is what you want to remove for it to roll freely.
Hope it helps you avoid that fee and that huge headache you must be going though.

Appreciate everybody’s feedback.
You would think tow companies might know about this.
I don’t have the tools and the car is facing the wrong way, so I think I have no choice but to go with the very expensive tow.
