Hey Everyone! First post here. Nice to meet you!

So my youngest will graduate high school next year and I'll be looking for a new ride next summer. I'm 99% sure it's going to be a new supra... I've watched 8 million youtube reviews and I think I'm in love :D

All my life I've had 4dr sedans and a couple of SUVs. My question is, what was your experience moving to a 2-seater? Pros or cons? It will be my daily driver. My commute to work is less than 5 miles. My wife drives an Explorer so we'll have that for any hauling / family trips, so that won't be an issue...

Congrats on getting one through high school!! Its always awesome and scary to see your kids grow and take the world on.

Not sure of your location, but motor trend drove theirs through the winter and basically said at stock height you will get stuck on snow and the car is really a three season car.

Your five mile drive might not be enough to warm the oil up in the winter which is never good for the oil as the condensation does not burn off.

If that is not an issue (aka you live in warm climate) - then the other issue is that the car is awkward to get in and out of - I'm ~6 feet and 195lbs and you have to really turn your body to the opening and get out at an angle somewhat - I could see that getting old all the time. I have one seat setting set to push the seat all the way to back and that helps with getting in and out.

The other is that if you will be picking up groceries, etc you should search for a not slip mat or some type of collapsable box that you can put your groceries in.

Pro's: It's comfortable daily for just normal driving.
Gains alot of attention
good MPG if you don't have a heavy foot
There's enough space in the trunk to pack your goodies.
It's been reliable for the last 2 years 30k miles of ownership.

Cons:
Poor visibility depending where you're coming from. You'll get use to it.
Don't smack your head when getting in. Cabin is tight but I like it.
Gains a lot of attention. It was cool at first but at times it feels like i'm driving an exotic because everyone wants to talk to you or ask you something at stop lights, gas stations or where ever.
"NiCE bMW" and "iS tHaT a sUpra" got old after a week.

This is not a winter/snow car. So have another ride for that.

- Your driving view is lower, much, much lower.
- Your vision is not well covered as SUV. use electronics such as blind spot & backup camera.
- may need to think about what you can buy at store (like grocery). avoid costco. large items like bundle of TP or paper towel should be limited to 1 or less. although supra does offer larger cargo space, excessive amount may not fit.
- Shopping at home depot might be limited unless you are getting batteries.
- be careful on speed bumps or potholes.
- handling characteristic is different. - go to NASA event as it is offered when you buy a new GR cars. - you will learn more.
- extra curricular activities with your partner might be limited as well as contort your body. not recommended but it's your preference.

other than above points, it's a car after all. you will enjoy it. ;)

I find it to be one of the most comfortable 2 seaters I've owned... and I've had several over the years. If you're anything like me... the short commute won't be a problem, because you'll find 'reasons' to just take the scenic route instead, and turn it into a 20 mile drive. :D

As mentioned... watch your head. After the first few times you get used to the "tuck and roll" and it becomes a subconscious action.

This is also my first 2-foot 2-seater, and it’s my daily. It’s very comfortable, I don’t have any issues with it. I do have a WRX hatch for winter and for picking up larger items though. Since your wife has an SUV the larger item issue shouldn’t be a worry, but depending on where you live the winter months might be a challenge. For me, if it’s <40F then the Supra stays in the garage.

This car's also my first 2 seater and daily! I can give you some info that may help, hopefully:

The change does feel weird at first, but after you take your time to adjust your seat to your exact liking (probably took me like 20 minutes), it changes everything. I found funny how something so simple changed my driving experience.

You'll have to get used to some slopes. The car is low on the ground, but not extremely. So on some slopes you'll have to remember to take it sideways.

BE CAREFUL with parking wheel stoppers. That'll might take time to get used to, especially since the front of this car is longer than average.

Paint chips easily on this car (basically a rock magnet), so you might want to invest in PPF, at least for the front.

The change from a sedan to this, was a huge difference. It feels a lot tighter, but it's not really uncomfortable. I think the longest drive I've done in the Supra is a bit over 2 hours, and I was pretty confortable (depends on your height)

There's also some noises that you might not be used to, which could scare you and make you think that somethings broken; like the exhaust clicking when you're done driving (scared the crap out of me right after I got home from the dealer). When in doubt, check this site. I learned a lot using it.

You will get a LOT of attention, so if you're a huge introvert, you might not like the car. Most of my experience has been with really nice people and even wholesome conversations, but occasionally you'll get the "nice BMW" comments. I just say thanks and laugh.

The car isn't actually a gas guzzler as you would think. When driving in normal mode, I get around 27-30mpg.

If you have android, say goodbye to android auto. That's one of the very few things I don't like about this car. You can do screen-mirroring, but it's just not the same.

If I think of any more stuff, I can add!

OP your commute is less than 5 miles? Why stop with a 2 seater? Get a one-seater, like a bicycle.. get exercise and save on gas! You'll be the hero dad of 2022. GL!!

Since your other vehicle can be used to haul the big stuff and carry others I think you're in a great spot. Plenty of people daily it. I do not but I could. I have a storage organizer in my trunk and it helps me keep my things, like groceries, secure.

You're in the perfect spot to get a Supra. I say come join the club and enjoy this fleeting moment in time.

The main thing I had to get used to was getting into the car. I basically fall backwards into the seat. A faith fall :D

And to exit, just roll onto the ground.

I turo’d one for a weekend to make sure nothing was a dealbreaker. Maybe try that if you have one in your area - even if it’s a 2.0 as it will give you an idea of everything but the power of the 3.0 (maybe some tech stuff like CarPlay, but you know what I mean).

Yeah, I kinda fall back into my car after I get my leg and foot positioned correctly. I’m 6’3, so there is really no space for error, you come in too high, you’re gonna have a bumpy head. Working your Core I feel is essential for this car, you’re practically doing a crunch everytime you get in and out of it.

And to exit, just roll onto the ground.
My process: Left foot out, start to roll my body out, brace with left hand and push through my heel, twist, ensure my right foot does not hit the door for the hundredth time, two finger snaps, fall out, recover, look around to see if anyone saw.
