Help: Hose Insulation Shredded

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up a 2021 Supra with a CTS intake and downpipe. The prior owner / installer shredded this insulation to the exposed hose beside the air intake.

1. Which hose is this and what does it do?
2. What does the insulation do? (Heat? abrasion?)
3. Should the insulator be replaced? (Dealer quoted $115cad for the hose and insulation! Comes as one set.)
4. Is there a material or heat insulator that could replace this insulation?

That looks like pipe insulation tubing. I use something similar for my kinetic watch winder. You can get some sizes at Home Depot, but there should be a larger variety at mcmaster.com
Make sure you know maximum temps where installed.

That dealer is marking it up an assload. Stay away from them.

It's the crankcase vent hose. Going to assume the insulation is for cold climate to make sure any water vapors don't freeze.
