The Australian cars are muted from the factory so the AWE was a massive improvement for me. In daily driving it sounds great in the cabin but I'm told it's even better on the outside - Where the car used to be dead quiet, it now burbles on releasing the accelerator with some occasional (but fairly rare) pops. In short, the AWE essentially added the soundtrack that the body always suggested!I just ordered the AWE touring non-resonated because I plan to keep the stock downpipe. What do you think of the sound? Cold starts, idle, sound level, any drone?
I drive in Sport mode almost exclusively but when in Comfort mode the burbles pretty much disappear; the overall noise level is largely dictated by your right foot. As for cold starts, they can be pretty loud but nothing too crazy; It rumbles nicely at idle and while there is zero drone, the exhaust note is present during highway driving. It's not particularly annoying but it certainly cruises louder than it did stock.
Overall, I recommend it highly and the folks at AWE are nice to deal with too.. aside from the local Australian distributor who's mark-ups would embarrass US Toyota dealers!
