Hi fellow Supra owners, I have ran into an issue that has me scratching my head without any ideas what to do or check next,

I have a 2021 3.0 Premium AT that has this really weird clunk/pop when turning sharp right, see video:

It seem to me it’s coming from rear passenger side which would mean it happens when the suspension is decompressing when it happens (sharp right turn).

mods:
- SPL rear traction arms
- SPL rear toe link with lockout (installed thinking the toe arm eccentric were worn out and causing the issue, more about this later)
- Eibach euro spec lowering springs (they seem to have sleeves so I don’t think this is due to binding but I know nothing)
- SPL rear endlink (already tried swapped back to stock to rule out, not it)
- BMS spacers and Motorsport hardware lug conversion kit.

other mods that may be unrelated:
- MHD flex fuel OTS
- Verus front camber plates

The car has a new driver side drive shaft as it destroyed a bearing cage last summer and had to be replaced, the new drive shaft is an upgrade part number with less flex than the one on the passenger side, both drive shaft look fine to me upon inspection.

I noticed the issue after aligning the car, this prompted me to replace the camber bolts and also install the tow lockouts, because to me it sounds like eccentric bolts when they skip the notch the sit in - I put tamper detection marker to make sure these bolts aren’t moving and the marker is still intact, no sign of movement under load…

I also checked the battery tray and fuse area for lose stuff inside the trunk, everything seems fine.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Top hat bearing on the camber plate? Maybe check if the nut is tight/loose?

taking a look right now, though it sounds to me like it’s coming from the rear passenger

Edit: Found the driver side small adjustment screws were loose, tightened them and went for a short drive, popping sound still there in passenger rear :(

make sure the SPL rear toe rods didn't break at the cinch fitting. I have gone through 3 of those pieces of shit already.

What are cinch fittings?

I have less than 20 miles on these toe arms, I got them because I wanted to make aligning the rear easier since I do this myself using string method + alignment hubs. Also I suspected the noise was caused by worn out eccentric bolts (camber/toe) so I replaced camber bolts and locked out the toe to rule that out.

I mentioned the camber plates and strut nut because the sound sounded kinda similar to mine. The top nut got loose so I had to use an impact wrench to get it tightened a little more and it went away. Maybe I'll hear it once in a while on a drive way with the steering wheel fully turned, but in most other driving scenarios it's quiet.

Did you have the noise before you put the rear toe arms on?

I did not want to use an impact on the top nut and instead used a pass thru socket and Allen socket wrench to hold the strut shaft while tightening - I doubled checked using the same method but maybe I just gotta send it with the impact…

how many ugga duggas did you blast it with?

Yup, sorry if I wasn’t clear about that part (non-native English speaker) - I suspected worn/stretched out toe adjustment bolts/washer as a potential culprit, instead of replacing them for new bolts I decided to upgrade toe arms while I was at it… however this didn’t fix the noise 😓

Just like 2 or 3 ugga duggas, really quick ones. Like a slight trigger pull. I couldn’t do the pass through method and Allen key because I have KW coilovers with vorshlag plates, unfortunately there wasn’t enough exposed nut for the pass through to get a good grip.

yeah my pass thru barely hooks too, it’s a pita to torque down… I’ll give it a try again in the morning and see if it moves at all (I have torque viz marker on it) - I think you might be on to something, I don’t trust my ears to be able to tell where any sound is coming from 😅

With all your suspension mods, could be anything but at least you can go through the process of elimination.

Very true! Im just out of ideas on the rear end, I think maybe I’m misplacing the noise, I’m going to get my wife to come out with me since she got that super hearing and can’t get nothing past her… probably should have done that a while ago 😅

so after 3 quick ugga duggas on front passenger side top camber plate bolt with impact wrench, the problem is almost gone…. It does it 10% of the time with really aggressive right turn… I guess I gotta give it another ugga dugga?

I can’t believe the problem is in the front! It still sounds like it’s coming from the right rear!
