Hello all. Sorry if this is a dumb question, But before I rip apart my trunk to unplug the ASD is it possible to use Bimmer code on my car even though it has a locked ECU? Thanks!

There’s plenty of changes that can be made by Bimmercode to ā€˜locked’ DMEs. FDL coding and flashing/tuning are very different things; there’s extensive information on Google about how it all works.

Be aware that ASD while fairly synthetic it serves a purpose. I turned it off and these are my personal observations.

1) ASD is way more active in sport mode than comfort. You can turn 70% off any time just putting it not sport mode.

2) the Supra makes plenty of authentic noises like exhaust and intake. Engine noise isn’t one of them. The engine revs are mostly fake. The B58 is super quite and smooth be default, If you want to hear ASD do a throttle blip down shift. The rev matching sounds are 95% ASD. With it turned off you rev matching gets almost imperceptible.

3)the bottom end of the exhaust is supplemented by ASD, it doesn’t get on song until you get into higher in the revs. It makes the stock sound incomplete

4)like the matrix, even knowing it’s fake I didn’t care and turned it back on.

ASD with an aftermarket downpipe was irritating as hell (back when I got the brake update and it reset everything)

I turned ASD off on my stock auto Supra and like it much better in sport mode this way. ASD has a really annoying tone at 2-3K RPM, it only sounds good above 3K IMO.

yah I’m pretty sure that’s the exhaust supplement for low RPMs. The engine driveline noises are less relevant for autos that do all the engine speed management. If I had an auto I suspect I would have kept it off too.

one of reason I like bimmer link more than code is you can toggle ASD off opposed to coding it permanently without a backup

If you disable ASD, the sound system does sound slightly better!
