Leather wear / flaking on 2026 model

I've had my supra (premium) for 6 months and only put on 2k miles and I'm already seeing wear on the drivers side seat. I'm going to look at warranty replacement but after searching online with little results, I wanted to see if others had this issue so early on.

this has little to do with the quality of the leather and a lot to do with how you sit in the car.

any leather will wear if you constantly rub that corner.

this is how you avoid friction on the external seam of a sports car seat

I understand where you're coming from but I have a hard time believing this has little to do with the quality of the leather. The majority of my miles are in shorts and a tee shirt going to a gym. I have three other leather seat cars (with the lowest milage being 45k) that don't seem to have this flaking issue.

The Supra seats need leather conditioner often. If not they will dry out and start flaking like yours.

Mabe thats your issue. The Supra will almost certainly have coated seats like 95% of all modern leather car seats. It's a bit pointless "conditioning" it at all. I do agree the wear looks accessive and I've seen people successfully claim this sort of wear on warranty as well as discolouration. Try your dealer but be prepaired for a battle with them and Toyota.

I never did like the leather finishes on BMW seats. My Supra leather seats just feel so stiff and the opposite of supple leather. I'm thinking about having mine recovered by a local upholstery shop. When I do that I will choose a finer grade material with offset stitching and an embroidered logo.

I agree with others… you have to lift your body over or around the side bolster when getting in and out… and not slide over the bolster and piping upon entering and exiting the car. Not the easiest to do but requires some finesse.

Is this exclusive to newer Supra's or the ones with non-black seats? Mine are practically mint condition despite it being a 2021 with 37K miles. Never done anything leather-care wise to the seats except a good wipe down with interior wipes every other wash.

I've seen this often on cars with larger side bolsters and drivers rubbing their butts on them while getting in and out.

I've not put any conditioner on my seats since ownership near 6 yrs ago. Seats have no unusual wear, looks new.

Maybe the conditioner he's using is breaking down the leathers coating.

My seats at nearly 20k miles and 5 years still look brand new. Is this a color issue? Mine are the normal black not tan. Never put anything on them to coat\condition them.

I'm sorry, I can't see this argument as a reason for failure at 2k miles and maybe 300 times getting in and out of a almost $70k car. It's great advice to help prevent long term wear but not brand new leather. Doing triceps dips is a bit unreasonable expectation for a street car with power adjustable heated seats... this isn't a Porsche GT3 with fixed racing buckets.


Toyota designed these seats for the Premium trim. They know the car sits low and has bolsters. They know how people get in and out of cars. If the leather can't survive normal entry and exit for 2,000 miles (300 entries/exits), the material isn't spec'd correctly for the application or there is a material defect. Full stop.


I've got three other cars with leather seats and who receive much more abuse getting in and out of. The one with 45k miles (A Nissan rogue, which is far from luxury) looks better than this Supra at 2k. It leads me to think this is a quality issue.


And based on this thread, it sounds like black seats are holding up fine for years with zero maintenance while my hazelnut is failing in months with proper care. I'm an average sized guy, it wouldn't make sense why theirs is so good while I have failure on the bolsters and the middle bottom of the seat.

I'll def be more careful getting in and out but basketball shorts and a tee-shirt should never cause this wear.

The reason cars are so expensive anymore has nothing to do with fit and finish, and everything to do with all the tech in them. All the bings and bobs, sensors, voice command, CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive cruise, HUD, adaptive dampers, etc…has nothing to do with materials. People (consumers and politicians) decided to have money spent on all this unnecessary shit rather than quality materials.

I don't think the leather is of particularly good quality but it's more than likely just wear and tear. I highly doubt warranty will be granted unless you get extremely lucky.

These car's aren't exactly easy to get in and out of and if you wear jeans with protruding rivets (for example) it's probably just another #sportscarthing.
