Welcome Burnout brother! I have a full front PPF with xpel stealth, no way to tell unless you look at the edges.

Questions/Guidance
  • Seems to be very little consensus on break in periods lol. In general I have driven very conservatively and never use cruise control anyway. Did 1 non-redline launch <80mph with engine warm and maybe a couple 0-30 non redline out of stop lights. Would you recommend doing first oil change early on or is that a thing of the
    past?

  • Have heard that getting oil changes at Toyota dealerships can be difficult as often do not stock Supra materials. Should I just find a good non-dealership spot or try to find a where I live that can do it?
Break-in is in the guide. It's 1000-1200 miles iirc. I mostly broke mine in, but like you I had plenty of red lights egging me on, but overall I was gentle and followed break in.

I change my own oil since day one. I went in for a battery issue (Known issue I think) and they wanted it for days to test the battery. After that I passed on Toyota assisting me and prefer to pick my oil, even if the car is sensitive, etc.

I've had like 4 oil consumption errors in like 6-7000 miles. I've always just topped it off and had 0 issues with this. BMW manual states it's normal to burn a quart every so many miles. You shouldn't need to worry. I don't think it's happening at all after 2021, but could be wrong.

The break in period thing is a gimmick, run boost through it for the next hundreds of miles to properly seat everything. I did that to my car and never had any consumption issues whatsoever.. you gotta drive the car like the way you'll be driving it 10k miles from now. Theres more to it just getting on it for the first miles of break in, but i'm not gonna go into it, i've done it multiple times before on this forum. If anyone says otherwise also, explain why race cars don't have break in periods. ??‍♂

Glad to be part of Supra community! I’ve had my new A-91MT Supra for a couple months now and about 500 miles (Out of state purchased delayed registration so I could drive). In love with the car. It is my first “performance” vehicle after driving my Lancer into the ground. Some of my takeaways and questions if anyone would like to provide guidance.
  • The burnout White really makes it pop but a matte/satin white car in Texas was just asking for headaches. Lots of challenges with preventing staining on paint to constantly have to clean. Just got front PPF and Ceramic coating that has made big difference so far
  • Heads up display (My last car was a 2011 so I’m easily impressed) I don’t know how I drove without this now
  • Manual transmission. Great short throws. Just feels right. First to second gear is very touchy but eventually got it down smoothly.
  • Visibility. Honestly not as bad as expected with typical drives. Large side mirrors cover majority of bases and safety package has seems like it has minimal weaknesses

She's a beauty! Good thinking on the coating. As for the first oil change, I think you'd be fine waiting till around 1,000 miles.

In regards to service I would try bigger dealerships. They usually get more supras and service more. Also you might want to call to setup the appointments. I won`t recommend using indy shops if your car is under warranty either. But that`s just a personal opinion.
I second the suggestion to call ahead and schedule your maintenance at the Toyota dealer. That way, you can ask them to confirm that their Supra tech(s) is scheduled for that day. My (large) dealership said the Supra tech is in once a week (Thursdays) and I could only schedule on that day.

I also asked them to make sure they have all the Supra-specific parts (e.g., oil, filter) ready for that service. The dealership told me if they ever ran out of the Supra oil, they have a deal with the BMW dealership down the road to get oil from them. It gives me confidence that they know it's a BMW underneath.

I have a new Supra question

I have adjusted the brightness on my HUD as well as the info screen, but the brightness doesn’t seem to have a night setting. Manual indicates there should have been a “while headlights are on” type setting but I never saw it. If I adjust brightness while the headlights are on, is that an independent setting from daytime automatically?

either it’s unintuitive or I’m dumb.
It’s def possible I’m dumb

i haven't figured this out either-- i've had the car since late Dec.
overall, my loaded Accord has more 'luxury/convenience' features than the Supra, so i kind of just accepted it lol

edit: on the Supra steering wheel, the song selector is a knob, and the volume function are buttons. common sense flew out the window while designing it.

Check the bimmer code for the proper solution.

The Supra tech nonsense is so stupid. It’s a car. Just like pretty much every other car. Not difficult to work on.
Unless you’re the type that needs to pay a specially trained milk tech to open your milk jug for your breakfast cereal you can easily change your own oil.

Hey! Leave my milk-jug-opener-guy out of this! Some of us just can’t be bothered with all that work so early in the morning. Bad enough the economy caused me to have to let my cereal-dumper-outer go.

I’m really trying to do some mental gymnastics to justify the button/knob situation on the steering wheel, to counter your point. That being said, I can’t see a reason that the volume is a press button, when a wheel was right there.? The wheel with the HUD is kind of intuitive, however.

I rather have someone that somewhat knows how to handle a BMW with all the electronics than someone that doesn't. Lots of fried head units and batteries already with the tech as is.

What tech are you referring to that isn't also in the new Camry?

BMW electronics/ computers are way more sensitive than a Toyota. Can't even leave things in the OBD port without it causing issues.

Would you want a Honda tech working on your Ferrari with out designated training?

Congrats OP and welcome to the community! Ur gonna love it.

Did my first oil change at 5000. Was covered under Toyotacare so why not. Tried to follow break in period and held off using launch control, but did rev pretty hard couple times.

Whichever Toyota dealership is closest to you is fine. Just call ahead 2 weeks and ask them to check if they have the Supra oil in stock. They will order from local BMW dealers if not and it's not a big deal. Easier to get warranty stuff done if at the same dealer for occasional electronic gremlins to solve.
