Hey All, I am picking up my Supra within a month or so and it happens to be a manual transmission. With it also being a 24' model I am aware the ECU will be locked and I am limited on tuning options without spending a pretty penny. (To my knowledge)

Ive heard mixed reviews about the JB4 software and am pretty confused on what I should do in order to make good power while maintaining some reliability and not having to do anything with my clutch until I replace it down the road when I need too. At that point id probably invest in an aftermarket one.

Ive been putting off buying anything in regards to the tunes so I've purchased "Bolt-Ons" For the time being
-> Armaspeeds Forged carbon fiber air intake, Vr performance Titanium charge pipe, Made Motersports Single exit exhaust, Active Autowerke Catted downpipe, and H & R lowering springs plus a couple other cosmetic goodies...

I don't have many options for fuel blends in my area so just planned on staying with 93 octane

Any recommendations on what I should do about tuning with the basic bolt ons and 93 octane? Also would I Be safe installing these bolt ons before my tune or should I just wait to do it all at once?

Yeah I have gotten JB4 working on my MT completely fine now but no one else has stepped up to test my "fix" to see if its repeatable lol.

Honestly, if you want easy power, keep the OEM downpipe and just get a JB+. That was the lowest effort, easy, smooth power upgrade I've ever done. Sold it to a friend who has OEM DP on his MT, and it also runs completely fine. Only has issues if you go higher flow DP, in that case you would need to go with JB4.

The JB4 is definitely more powerful with catless dp like I have now, but it did take a lot of fine-tuning effort to get here. No clutch slip at all running 4.5psi over stock.

You can do your bolt-ons before a tune.

Hey, Thank you for the response and help!
When you say "Fine-Tuning" did you custom map the tune or did your purchase the file from someone? If you did go through someone, Who would you reccomend? Ive been pointed towards Jesse but was stopped because he dosent do manual transmissions anymore...

I did it myself, so I guess I would recommend myself.

Like I said earlier, I haven't tested the fix on other MTs yet so I'm not looking to take any of your money unless we actually get it working. Requires not-yet-released JB4 firmware that helps with Supra MTs (and BMW 330e's lol)

Ahh I see, once I get the car and get all the bolt ons installed I could send you a message further getting my tuning set up. If I can't figure out how to custom map, How was the standard 93 map on the jb4 without custom touch ups?

Yeah sounds good.

I can't really say how good the OTS maps would work on your car, but I can say that they were all borderline unusable for me since my car was catless already when I installed JB4.

I only know that JB+ worked fine on OEM DP, so I figure Map 1 on the JB4 would work fine on an OEM DP MT car too.

Adam,

Would the JB+ work with aftermarket catted downpipe set on a lower setting with MT?

THX

I can't say for sure with high flow catted DP, but I know @RyanA90 runs that combo and it works.

Definitely would be a bit of a gamble imo. Wouldn't be nearly as bad as catless.

Honestly with Jb4s going for like $400 on here, the extra $150 is worth it for the sake of being able to datalog and make sure everything looks good. you can configure JB4 to behave exactly like a JB+ anyway (and tune for the DP).

and of course remove and resell if you aren't happy with it.

I do really recommend JB+ though for the people more shy to mods lol.

I use the Kenji 200Cell HFDP with JB+ and don’t have problems.

I'm on similar bolt ons with my 23 manual and no tune. No issues. The car will be fine without the tune. I've heard mixed opinions on the piggyback tunes with our manual cars with the majority of people saying avoid it. Bootmod3 and MHD are preferred after a full unlock
