RIP unborn Supra MKV
Directly no, but indirectly absolutely.M3 isn't the MKVs target
M3 yes, but Cayman no. The 718 Cayman (982) is consider a "new 4th gen".By the time the new Supra is out, there will be a new M3 and a new Cayman.
The roof could be slightly higher, but the nose looks correct when compared to the GR Supra concept. The roof needs to be thicker on the front shot. Also the nose section could come down a bit. Other than that I think it does look pretty close.
A flat 4 now, geez...I'll passThe new Cayman looks more like a refresh facelift rather than a new generation, but Wiki does have it as a 4th gen. It even has different designer from the 981, Peter Varga.

That is why Tada only went for the Cayman's handlingA flat 4 now, geez...I'll pass
Well, same engine as GT86. But what point of I6 that makes the same 350 PS as F4?A flat 4 now, geez...I'll pass
Perks of living in California! Nobody tests cars in Illinois I guessInteresting timing. I was driving on the 101 freeway today in Thousand Oaks, CA and my friend and I were having a conversation about the new Z4/Supra. He loves the A80 but he is also a BMW fan so naturally he said he would consider the new Z4 if they are very similar performance wise. 5 minutes later a new Z4 mule drives passed us on the freeway with the same camouflage as usual. We both started laughing at the timing of it all.
The one thing I noticed that I really didn’t like is just how small the car is. It really is tiny, looks about the same length as the last gen Z4, maybe 3-4 inch longer would be my guess. It definitely looks wider though.
The Supra is going to be a very small car, it is not even close to the A80 size, think 86 size.
Thanks for the info, I didn’t know the measurements were released on the Z4. The overall Measurements don’t tell the whole story here, it’s ‘small boned’Perks of living in California! Nobody tests cars in Illinois I guess. And FWIW, BMW has already released the official dimensions of the Z4 when they had the mule test drive in France. Overall length is 170.1" and wheelbase is 97.2", which is 3.2" longer than the previous generation. The 86 being 167" and the MKIV being 177.7", for comparison. And I know you only like facts, but one of the gentlemen in germany who took photos of the Z4 and Supra together said the Supra is longer by roughly 3" thanks to the nose, so take that for what its worth. But, yes you're correct, it's about halfway-ish from an 86 and an MKIV in overall length.
Yeah, proportionally it does have a small appearance for sure. Will be interesting to put it next to an MKIV whenever we get the chance. There are photos from Goodwood and some of testing in the UK, but not enough to get a good scale. Thanks for the info, I didn’t know the measurements were released on the Z4. It just looks Tiny, not sure what it is exactly but just expect a small Supra.
According to Automobile the new G29 Z4 (170.1 in) is longer than both the E89 (166.5 in) and 86 (166.7 in). I also think the new Supra will be slightly longer than the Z4, because of the incorporated nose from the FT1.

After seeing the Z4 in person I would suggest people to stop trying to size the Supra by its reported measurements since you can’t really understand the full scope of its size by that alone. I can tell you right now the A80 looks like a much bigger car, not even close. The Z4 dimensions were posted back on page 35 of this thread.![]()
I don’t know what you are smoking but the A80 and 86 have a night and day difference in appearance and size. Grapes to oranges. Leave the mind tricks at home, look with your eyes, no need to debate this.Guff has both an A80 and a 86. He has shown us size wise there isn't much a differences between the two. Mostly just more overhang on the Supra. As to why the mules look small; maybe its because of the camo? I mean that is the purpose of it. Its suppose tp play tricks on the eyes.
