Just wanted to share my custom tuning experience with Bryan @CB Tuning.
I picked up my 2020 Supra LE with 8500 miles December 2024. Car came with piggyback VRTuned and that’s it. I come from owning/building/tuning multiple MKIV Supras plus owning a shop for 15 years that builds and tunes Evos, I wanted a tuning platform that I can make changes to the tune myself as needed. The first I did was removing the VRTune piggyback. After reading through razorlab’s “Self tuning” thread in DME/ ECU Tuning Software, I was convinced that I’m going with Bootmod3 and have Bryan @CB Tuning tune my Supra. My goal was ~500whp on 91 octane and 550-600whp on E30-40. I knew my power goals can’t be achieved with the stock turbo, especially at 5000+ ft elevation. I did my research and pulled the trigger on a Pure800 turbo and CG Precision DS-1 Hi-Flow Race Catted Downpipe. Next up, pull the trigger on BM3 tuning plus the BM3 FlexFuel kit.
After installing the Pure800 and catted downpipe, I reached out to Bryan to get something setup. Since I’m new to BM3, Bryan took the time to explain the tuning process, instructions, and answered all my questions. I still needed to bench unlock my DME. Bryan recommended purchasing Mission M-Link to bench unlock my DME myself. I performed the bench unlock with M-Link and things went smoothly.
Now things get interesting as Bryan built a custom base map for my car. I would go out in the evenings after dinner and get three to four 4th gear pulls. Next day, Bryan would communicate to let me know what he’s seeing and that he had an updated map for me to reflash. We started with 91 octane then moved to E30. We repeated this process over a two week period until he was satisfied with tune. I’m at 5000 ft elevation, we were struggling to hit target boost. Also, with stock fuel system, I can only run E30-E35 as the HPFP is maxed out down low. Bryan eventually figured out the issue with hitting boost target and keeping the car from maxing out the HPFP.
At this point, I couldn’t even do a 4th gear pull on the streets anymore due to traction problem, even with new 305’s Falken Azenus tires. It’s time to strap the car on the dyno. The drivability of the car is amazing. I got the car on the dyno and did 3 pulls. With Bryan’s tuning magic, the Supra was flawless on the dyno and exceeded my expectations. No tuning was done on the dyno, just three baseline pulls on E35 at 24psi.
I still have the H&R springs to install. Just got the tint done.
