Interesting, however how can you be 100% sure of the final engine and specs? Do you have insider info?
I mean what do you expect him to say? yes?

The car is getting a BMW i6, its not getting an M engine. Those are the current BMW i6 engines (n55/b58). Pretty sure the b58 is replacing the n55. As far as the specs of the engine, since its already out in the wild, the info is readily available.

I just built a 2018 M240 on bmwusa.com.

You can still order that car with a 6 speed manual transmission.

The 2018 M240 is using the B58 engine.

just saying....

Wouldn't make sense to get a N series engine. I would bet on the B58 too, and would be totally happy with that. But, like someone else said, it would be sweet to see a TTV6 in there as well, straight from Toyota.

Ha ha yes it was A70 who said “it would be pretty badass to have a Yamaha tuned variant of that Lexus TT in the upper models though” Wouldnt that be amazing...

Yea, last I checked the Bimmerpost insider who has proven to be accurate, said the 380 HP version is only going in the Z4, while the 330-340 HP engine will go in the Supra and Z4.
It will be the B58 no other engine, you can take it to the bank. Is about cost efficiency. The Z4 will have some updated components but the core engine will be the same. My 135Is/135i has the same engine as the M2. the 135i is 300hp while the M2 is 369hp. The tunning and cooling will be the difference

For those that still wandering of the mythical 380hp of the Z4, there is only 2 options possible S58/S55 or B58, there is 'NO' other options, BMW does not make any other engine around that HP. Now, the 'S' on the naming convention is a twin turbo and are exclusive to 'M' cars and the Z4 hasn't announced a M version. M cars are released a year after the regular model. So of the Z4 ever releases an M model it will include the S55/S58. The new M2 CS will have the engine replaced from the n55 to a S55 of the M4...but it will be detuned to produce less HP and torque. The M2 is a proper 'M" car unlike the Z4, therefore the likely scenario is that the Z4 will sport the B58. Like I have mentioned before, BMW will not make another engine just to output a few HP and TQ less. It will use the exact Z4 engine detuned and cooling appropriate for the output of the engine.

Nice, the main difference in performance between the N55 and B58 is that after 80MPH the N55 slows down on acceleration while the B58 continue pulling at a steady rate. Is also closed deck engine while the N55 isnt

5 Supras currently
out of date vid. N54, and its successor N55 have been superceded by the B58, which is actually far more 2jz like then the N series as it actually has a strong closed deck block.

Guys, I saw this on YouTube today and thought it was an interesting video. If BMW has rectified all the issues of the N54 in the B58, we might very well have a solid 2JZ alternative??? Your thoughts?

Welcome.

Anyways no sense in wasting good forum space. Maybe we can turn this thread into a dedicated 2JZ thread?

I'm thinking of going turbo on my SC300. NA-T or GTE swap? :dunno: Would like to hear everyone's opinion on the matter.
I recently sold my SC300....great platform, however mine had rust that was pretty bad. Either route u go, it should be good. After all, a 2JZ is a 2JZ.
