Is a Supra with a 4 banger even a proper Supra?
IMO, no, not even close.

My contact in SE Asia is adamant their SZ-R is 4cyl, but I think we're going to have a different setup in the US as Jeff said.

If they don't bring that 3070lb car to market with the 6cyl, then I'm not interested unless the 3350lb car has 400+ hp. Even then, price is gonna be a huge obstacle...

The JZA80 SZ-R is an NA Supra with RZ performance upgrades.

Hopefully this new A90 Supra SZ-R has at least a 380 hp turbocharged inline 6 and weighs 3070lbs.

Any more weight and any less power than that, I'm out of here.

If Lexus is bringing a twin turbo V6 that makes 400hp in their IS next cycle, surely Toyota is going to bring more to the table, they have to. I dont see how they can imply the Supra is their halo sport car, yet makes less than the lowest model Lexus.

I'm hoping for 400+, even at 380hp I'm still debating, because of the possibility of it making more power than what they say it does. Then again, what will it do with BPU++ upgrades.

Whatever the price of this "BMW", no other BMW M2 or M4 or M8 will have a sitting position close to it. Those are souped-up cars, the Z4 is a proper sports car base, souped up to luxury. It is easier to strip down a luxed-out sports car, than to transform a commuter car into a sports car. No BMW today, is comparable to the Z4 Coupe E86, in terms of base layout. Suspension cannot compensate the base layout.

It is not going to be long until the new Supra will hit drag strips with 700 HP, daily drivable.

The new Supra will not have transaxle or manual, but the rest is fine. Expensive yes, but what car is worth a persons hard earned money? Only Dacia or beater Toyota, for motor sports only a dedicated track car. Everything else is an irrational purchase.

So even buying the new 2019 Corolla Hatchback is irrational?:D

I don't want a Dacia though.
No, everything other than a Dacia and Toyota (Yaris, Corolla, Camry, RAV4, whatever there is bland and boring).

now that this information has apparently been dispersed to marketing teams worldwide, some of the new info circulating is as follows (subject to change but unlikely):

SZ - 4cyl
SZ-R - 6cyl, 3070lbs
RZ - 6 cyl 3350lbs

starting price for SZ still appears to be $40,000USD
two straight six does also correspond with what Medrivfast was told.

The Z4 and Supra are the same with 3 different variances of engine's. From low hp to high hp they are
Forgot the size of the engine . But, low hp is single turbo
Mid level is 3.0L Twin Turbo
High level is 3.0L Twin Turbo with Electronic Assistance (Approx 400hp)

So with only one 4 cyl it seems that Toyota is forgoing the lesser 145kw / 195hp B48? :dunno: It makes sense for BMW because they don't have anything under the Z4, but for Toyota that would be a little to close to the 86 imo.

Same, but I'd easily take the b58 if that meant getting a 400lb lighter car lol.
I doubt the iron block would add crazy amounts of weight, unless it's built like a truck engine capable of cranking out 1000 hp while towing a yacht :D

Are we sure the Supra isn't getting the TT V6 from Lexus?

SZ-R = Turbo I6
RZ = TT V6

I guess it goes against most of the rumors but it would explain the weight difference. I mean Nissan went V6 everything in the past decade. And even though most would dislike a V6 Supra, 415HP and 440TQ (from 1600 to 4800 RPM!) in a 3350lbs car would be insane from factory. Not to mention it has all forged internals meaning a couple 100hp from a little more boost isn't that far fetched.
