If Corvette can have an E-Ray and Porsche an electric Cayman, why not bring an EV Supra to the party?

Well Tada-san said A100 will most likely be electrified or something like that. maybe hybrid or fully electric. I can't remember. He's onto more important things now, so who knows, lol.

^^ He did, yes. I can't remember if A70 also said something to that effect backwhen he was still posting.

I expected a gasoline turbocharged hybrid electric A100 Supra. Now this report is completely different. Doing a midship-like design somewhat takes away from the classic long hood trait that Supras have always been known for.

This also has at least a little overlap into the 100% EV Celica coupe rumor: 500hp-ish but in that case a RWD dual motor design and all based around solid state battery technology. That was said to be a co-developed EV coupe project with Mazda who would make their version RWD with a rotary range extender engine that would "rev out" under acceleration but not directly power the wheels.

Now with this report similar things are reported for the next Supra but in a RWD only configuration.

I'm good with it being focused as a RWD rather than AWD but given the state of their battery technology right at this moment and how close 2025 is that means the car would be in a locked development path as we speak.

...Which also makes me wonder if it will still share the dedicated sportscar platform that Lexus is to be getting as PerformanceSound reported.

...

A lot of conflicting information here. It is possible that Toyota is intentionally mixing or messing with what info is going out in order to keep the real details in the dark for now.

They are definitely making a next-gen Supra and they are definitely developing 100% EV sports models under GR and Lexus.

Given the state of tech right now and Toyota's stance on slow electrification rollout I was expecting the next Supra to be that gasoline turbo hybrid electric final bow out for ICE performance... but perhaps not?

I don't think they will disappoint whatever they do next.

The Supra was always going to go full electric. I just wasn't expecting it quite this soon but rather towards the end of the decade while other more common volume non-specialty sports models eschew engines much faster.

What doesn't make sense for me at the moment is, the only other electric vehicle Toyota currently has is the bZ4X and whole world knows they're behind on EV.

So, what. They'll skip all higher volume possible SUV/CUV/sedan and focus their resources on low volume sports car, as what proof of concept? They've done it with bZ4X.

Unless Toyota EVs start dropping like flies the next 1.5 years, I'm calling BS on this.

Also, what's up with bZ4X. Is Toyota putting Z4 in everything now. ??

Next-Gen Toyota Supra Could Be All-Electric, Report Suggests

https://www.carscoops.com/2023/02/the-next-generation-toyota-supra-might-be-all-electric/

The sixth-generation Toyota Supra could be based on the automaker's e-TNGA platform

For years, car enthusiasts have speculated about the future of the Toyota Supra. Now, the latest buzz out out of Japan suggest that the iconic sports car may be going electric and could arrive in showrooms as early as 2026. Of course, as with any rumor, it’s important to take these reports with a grain of salt.

A report from BestCarWeb claims that production of the current Supra will continue until 2025, when it will be retired in style with a special GRMN variant. This version is said to be the last one with a combustion engine and could feature a twin-turbocharged BMW-sourced 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, tuned to produce a staggering 542 horsepower lifting the sports car to all-new performance heights. This version will also apparently be the last one with a combustion engine.

Its rumored replacement, sixth-generation Supra is said to retain the current model’s rear-wheel drive layout and that it could be based on an updated version of the automaker’s e-TNGA architecture.

Very little else is known about the next Supra but when (and if) it hits the market, it could prove to be a close rival to the all-electric Alpine sports car that is in the works. It’s also safe to assume that it will pump out more horsepower and torque than the current Supra and it’s entirely possible that it will also be a touch more expensive.

The current Supra is an excellent sports car but its similarities to the BMW Z4 that it shares many of its parts with have always rubbed some people the wrong way. The Japanese car manufacturer recently generated new interest in the Supra with the long-overdue launch of a six-speed manual variant. While it adds to the overall driving experience of the car, it doesn’t transform a good sports car into an exceptional one.

If the sixth-gen Supra is indeed all-electric, it will no doubt cause a lot of controversy. Fortunately, we apparently have a 542 hp twin-turbo A90 Supra to look forward to before it arrives and that’s enough to excite anyone.

Car scoop is such a bad automotive news site. They can't even do accurate polls and research before writing an article.

The Tesla-ish front bumper is out of character... and those tail lights aren't 300ZX-ish. They're more Dodge Challenger-ish. The classic enclosed round MKIV tail lights would be better. Nissan sort of still emulated a little of the Skyline GT-R 32, 33 and 34 round tail lights in their R35 after all and their own 300ZX-ish rear on their new Z.

The A80 body as an inspiration is hard to beat. That will always be a timeless Supra shape.

The inclusion of a big rear wing evokes a big aspect of the MKIV's panache that is missing from the MKV.
