I have been topping off the oil in my car for three years with Mobil1, 0-20 and this weekend I went to buy new spark plugs and saw on the shelf the "GR!1!" bottles available. The parts guy said the GR stuff is thicker, and then my supra mechanic said oof, use liquimoly. Why tf would toyota do this? Or does this shit not even matter.

Here's something to consider; the U.S. service manual says to use 0w20 and 0w30, while the Japanese service manual says you can use 0w20, 0w30, 0w40, 5w20, 5w30, and 5w40.

See pages 263 of the manual / 265 of the PDF.

Does it matter? I mean, probably to someone.

In the words of my buddy "as far as weights go, 0w vs 5w is a little thicker, my dad was putting 20w50 in his Chevelle, thats some heavy *** oil compared to 0w20/5w20/0w30/5w30".

I ultimately ended up going with 5w30. If my motor blows up, I'll let y'all know! Can always yolo it and send it off to Blackstone for analysis.

I use to buy those small BMW bottles, but I started using LiquiMoly in 5L and not going back. I like big jugs. :dunno:
