Oil where the intake attaches to the turbo

OK, so I was literally just replacing my filter from armaspeed, and I thought I installed everything correctly a year ago, but now that I’m replacing the filter, I noticed that where the tube attaches to the turbo is covered in oil. It doesn’t look like the tube itself is covered in oil at all it’s pretty dry inside the tube for the intake, but the part where it attaches to is covered in oil is that normal?

A small bit is normal. I would say if it isn't pooling in the inlet you are totally fine.

This tube has oil residue in it because it is part of the crank case ventilation system. The area with the actual crank/rods/pistons has gaseous pressure that builds up. This pressure has to go somewhere. It is relieved through this tube, and another one down low on the engine block. This gaseous pressure contains small amounts of suspended oil particles, along with other contaminants/byproducts of combustion. This vapor is fed back into the intake piping to be re-introduced into the engine for combustion, thus lowering emissions by not venting the vapor to atmosphere. So that is where you will find the oil that comes out of suspension.

MIne is oily too. Not like dripping amounts, but I can definitely wipe off a good amount inside. I was told that is normal. I was also told my fat belly is normal in the USA.

Thats what I'm wondering too. I can understand Inside some oil residue but Outside i don't get. Where exactly is it escaping from? Is the oem gasket/seal incapable of holding enough pressure when turning the boost up & demanding higher hp output from the engine?

Did you check the silicone coupler? It could come lose eventually, happened to me 2 times. I check the fitment weekly by making sure there's no play on the intake.

Yeah I noticed it was completely loose when I was cleaning the filter ? but after reinstalling and wiping the coupler, I noticed some newer oil residue on the outside again. Coupler still on correctly

Most likely the C-clip that has 3 points of locking in is what he’s referring to.

Yep just checked and those clips seem fine. No oil residue.
I ended up uninstalling the whole intake so I can see the surrounding area better. Couldn’t find much of a source of a leak.

but I did notice some blackened oil residue on the underside of the charge pipe towards the bottom of the block. That connection seems sturdy too.

I’m hoping after reinstalling the coupler carefully again, it’ll fix the issue. The connection point to the turbo inlet is so sketchy. If I just breathe on it the wrong way, I feel it could come loose.

Side note: Praying I didn’t damage the turbo or engine since I just noticed the other day that coupler was loose after putting 30,000 mi ?
