You summed up what I experienced with the ECS02. I never used the first version of that tire or PS4S. The ECS02 is on my 2nd set of wheels, square setup 275/40/18 that I use daily in the summer and track duty (2-3 track days a year) so far no complaints. I drove them in pouring rain during my road trips and haven't had an issue with them. I'm on verus camber plates and HKS adjustable springs. For the fall and winter, I use Continental DWS06 Sport+ on my stock wheels, oem size.I've had both on the same car (not supra) before on the same suspension and to the same tracks, had PS4S first for 3 years and now on ECS02 for 1 year.
Grip:
PS4S have a little bit more dry grip
ECS02 are the go to Autocross rain tires, nobody runs PS4S in the rain for autocross, ECS02 performs quite a bit better in the rain.
Characteristics:
PS4S have soft sidewalls, rides more plush cuz of this but handling response is not as direct as ECS02. PS4S have a pretty square shoulder so when you're loading it up it has more contact area, this is partly why it's got more dry grip
ECS02 have stiffer sidewalls hence the more responsive steering and steering feel. ECS02 has rounder shoulder to tread transition, it is a little more progressive when you start losing grip aka a bit easier to tell when you're near the limit
PS4S had a bunch of microcracks right as it turned 3 years old, I don't winter drive this car so thats not an excuse.
Personally I prefer the looks of PS4S but I will never buy another set due to cracking, for the Supra it will be ECS02 for the street and 200TW for the track.
PS4S is a no brainer tire for most people, but depending on your need/steering preference and if you can use it up in 3 years or not ECS02 may be better
Thanks to Kujiwara for restarting this thread ? (different thread/post)I've had both on the same car (not supra) before on the same suspension and to the same tracks, had PS4S first for 3 years and now on ECS02 for 1 year.
Yessir. Glad to hear youâre enjoying it more! Track time that is. Eventually youâre going to want a more dedicated track tire, such as a super 200 or endurance 100I'm on advan ad09 right now (supposedy an enduro 200tw like an Hankook RS4 but I don't actually like them, or I need more seat time before I can heat them up properly), I'm strongly considering the ECS02 as a seat time tire with consistent grip loss on track, not a hotlap / laptime tire. PS4S I've used on my BRZ and they chunked with heat, felt pretty solid though. I had ECS02 on a NA 93 Miata (~2300lb ~100hp car vs ~3400lb ~400hp supra lol) and I liked them, anyone have any downsides about the ECS02 or can comment on PS4S for track on supra?
