Last year, I bought my A91 GR Supra. I loved the color. Such a unique car. So, I thought the best thing I could do was get ppf. I found this shop on Instagram in Florida called @topguardmiami and they seemed perfect. Roy, the owner, claimed to have done many Supras and there website says they are certified for installing ppf. The claims they made met my needs perfectly. So well, actually that I went down the Florida on an 8 hour drive, spending a thousand dollars to get the Supra down on a trailer. I met Roy and he took my car for a week for the ppf. When it was, finally time for pickup I was quite honestly surprised by the quality of the install. It was awful. It looked like someone installed it with zero experience. Just look at these pictures. That’s what failure looks like. Yes, it’s a hard car, but not that hard. Especially, most frustrating from someone who who claims he has not only received training and certification but is also qualified to apply ppf on a Supra. However, I needed to leave Florida the day of pickup, so I could not stick around. When I got back, after looking more and more at the ppf, what I found only got worse. The most unacceptable was cuts in the paint I found made by a razor. It’s awful seeing a car I love so much and a color I love so much digged with a razor with an installer that didn’t care. I did not want these people to touch my car ever again. When brought to Roy’s attention he wanted to do the bear minimum- just a simple polish, despite the paint literally being removed by the razor. From there, I asked Roy for a refund and compensation for the damage. He refused. Then, he proceeded to blame the install on me. Did I install it? He said that I did not give him enough time despite giving him the longest time window for industry. Additionally, he never said this during the install. If he said he was rushing I would have gladly changed my plans because I care about my care. He didn’t. But yet I ask: how do you fix literal damage you caused with more time? He even said it was a “perfect” amount of time when we initially made plans. He also blamed that I drove it back so soon, yet the car was facing backwards on a trailer 2 feet of the ground; debris was near impossible. The point is, no accountability was taken from Top Guard, their scheduling is amateur at best, and they don’t care about damage to your car. Top Guard makes claims that are essentially forms of false advertising about the skills they posses. Let me say know these guys have zero training and WILL be learning on your prized car. For me, this has taken two months of joy out of owning my Supra. I would appreciate it so much for some of you to leave a review on this guy or comment on his insta posts. He characterizes himself as something he is not even close to and I don’t want anyone else to be misled. Yes, I’m the same one person who posted the Was this a bad ppf install? thread. Thank you everyone.

Having worked for a premier shop for ppf here in my town I can say PPF hardly ever comes out perfect. (before anyone starts in, I guarantee I can find something wrong with your ppf install, there’s small things on mine too. Nothing like OP’s though) Time definitely helps but a week is plenty of time. Some of those defects just need to be cleaned and restuck.
He should have had plenty of time to obsess over your car to get it near perfect with a full week.
The razor cuts and the clear missing paint is unacceptable for anyone who has any skill. My old job would have been paying to fix all of that.

sorry you’re dealing with that, it’s unacceptable.
Contact your credit card and contest the charge assuming you paid with one.

My GOD. I’m sorry for someone else’s shitty skills services, I had experiences like this in the past with tint service. This is crazy. Maybe talk to an attorney and see what you can get back?

Hopefully you paid with a credit card. Tell them they have two options. Refund or deal with your CC company. This is completely unacceptable. My PPF isn’t perfect but compared to this it is damn near perfect.

Personally this is nearing small claims court for the amount of paint damage. Completely unacceptable.

edit: document absolutely everything. Every conversation, all of the damage. Keep dates and time. If you end up having to sue you’ll need it.

Despite all this, be positive though I know it’s hard to. Once you take it to another shop that knows what they are doing they will take that crap work off and make it beautiful again. Don’t let this experience ruin your Supra experience.

I saw your in SC, I know an excellent shop in GA that I got mines done and mine is literly perfect as I checked every corner with them. The shop is AP3 PPF, definitely check the out, and def doesn’t take a week. Maybe 3 days tops to get it done.

By far one of the worst installs and damage I’ve seen.

perfect installs actually exist but it’s all the shops in socal

Aerowerkz
Stickercity
protecfive film solutions

those shops install without any visible seams or slashes, very skilled and everything is tucked. I don’t know how they do it but it is possible.

this job is just extremely extremely bad, and they should be refunding for all the damages.

Wow… I hate to say it but yes that’s shit work! Sorry to see you had to go through this.

As I tell others… always look at a couple shops prior installations to determine the end result. The product is only as good as the installer.

I hope you paid with a credit card for I would dispute the charges.

My entire Supra is in ppf and the results are fantastic even with a precut xpel pattern.

Wow.. sorry to see this. OP, I would check with your insurance.. Maybe you can claim property damage, have that garbage removed and repainted.

I know I'm one of the few that don't drive this car much... I have a black with zero chips after 2 years and run no ppf. My other cars run ppf that I installed (which look 100x better than that shit job), but when the time comes to replace, I'm going to remove it and just drive the rest of ownership bare paint.. if my weekend drive route is good enough for my bare Supra, I don't need ppf on my other hobby cars.

Basically I drive mostly surface streets and maintain 5 sec with the car in front.

I've never tried to install PPF on anything, period, and I think I could do a better job if I was DRUNK, just because even drunk I would put more pride into my work than these clowns did with your car. I'm sorry you are going through this OP. That job is one of the worst excuses I've ever seen of someone who is supposed to be a "trained professional" doing their job.

Man, i feel for you on this one, my PPF is far from perfect and the entire hood may have to be redone but it’s nothing like this. As others have said, your cheapest/best path toward retribution is have the credit card company hold payment on it if you paid that way, if not, small claims court is the best option if you think the total cost of the PPF rework and paint/touch up work will not exceed $10k. All the best man….from another Refraction A91 enthusiast.
