1. First car was a ‘95 SC300, loved this car and it’s what really started my love for JDM cars, especially Lexus and Toyota’s. N/A 2JZ wasn’t bad for a first car but I definitely would’ve went turbo if I didn’t get rid of it.

2. After having the SC for about 2 years, I got my second vehicle, a ‘91 Wrangler 4.0 5 speed. I still have it and probably won’t ever get rid of it, only 42k original miles.

3. ‘15 Focus ST was number 2. Was a fun car, my first “somewhat fast” car, the 6 speed was pretty fun and it had decent power, but I just couldn’t love a FWD car and it also had a pretty serious issue where it would nearly cut off sometimes when pushing in the clutch, which Ford acted like they didn’t have a fix for (maybe they didn’t), so I traded it.

4. Traded in the SC300 and the ST and got a RC350 F Sport. I really loved this car and I still do, I was just ready for more power after owning it for nearly 4 years. Bullet proof reliability though, as expected from a Lex. I still currently have this car, but it is for sale.

5. 2012 F250 6.7 Powerstroke. My dad has the truck since it was new and I took it off his hands when he got a 2019. Truck is a beast and serves as the hauler / I need more than 2 doors vehicle.

6. Got my Supra a little over a month ago. I set out looking for a blue one but my local dealership said they couldn’t get one at the time, and even if they could they were marking them up $5k. Went back to them about a month later and they got me a blue one for MSRP. Since the SC300 I have always loved the MKIV, and admittedly I didn’t really like the Supra when the photos and BMW partnership were first revealed, but over time it really grew on me, and for the fact I couldn’t get a MKIV 6 speed turbo for less than a MKV would be, it seemed to make more sense getting a brand new car versus something 20+ years old. I love this car so far and have been really enjoying it.

I have a 19 Impreza/Crosstrek Limited as my daily/winter cars alongside the Supra for now.

I have to say, it has been some time now since I had that, "can't wait to get back in the car and drive/non-stop thinking of the car" feeling. My 2013 STI back in 2012-2014 was the last car that gave me that feeling. All the other cars I have owned were great, don't get me wrong. With this MKV Supra, even after a very long drive, when getting back home and parking...I immediately want to get back in and drive. I truly missed that feeling.

Completely agree with you on wanting to get back in the car and drive/non-stop thinking of the car. I had three MINIs prior to my CR-V and while they were a blast to drive, this Supra is something else.

I'd be curious to your thoughts on how the Supra compares to the Cayman. I recall reading sometime last year that the Cayman served as Toyota's benchmark for the MKV, which was what initially piqued my interest in it.

That's true, and it's one of the reason for me making the switch. Overall, I have 3 personal reasons for switching over.

1. Very limited aftermarket support and tuning options. It's been out for almost 4 years and supra immediately had more options. (Not surprised just saying)

2. For the same price range, you get very limited or almost no performance options (e.g PASM, PSE, Sport-Chronos etc.)

3. Limited to 2.0 L or 2.5 L 4-çylinder. Sound was okay, but left a lot more to be desired after coming from the SS.

As far as driving experience I have nothing negative to say. Comparing the two is strange to me because they both feel like they're made for a different audience. Cayman feels like a daily driving luxury sports car. But since it's light weight and very balance the handling feels like carving through the road. Also, the car felt like it wanted you to drive it hard and put focus into it. Hard to explain, but you could relax but not too much. The Supra feels more like a raw sports car that has some comfort features added. Between the two, the Supra is much more comfortable to drive, imo at times too comfortable for a sports car. As far as handling, I do prefer the Cayman handling better. I think the car just has much better balance of it's weight and being mid-engine does make a big difference. Imo It may not show up on a track, but the feel is much better.

At any rate, if you're interested to test drive one, I recommend Turo. I had actually did this before purchasing one and said I got a good experience out of it.

Your number 2 and 3 reasons also factored heavily in my decisioning because I wanted a 6-cylinder engine (never had one before) and no matter how much I tried on the Porsche configurator, I couldn't get a similar spec base Cayman any lower than mid $70k. Looking at pre-owned Caymans/911s meant compromising on the spec as well and being somewhat concerned about reliability outside of warranty coverage, not to mention Porsche's aren't much cheaper pre-owned than they are new. If I didn't have a need to transport other people occasionally and didn't live someplace with snow, maybe I could justify having a Cayman as my only car, but circumstances dictate otherwise. One week into Supra ownership and there are no regrets.
