Could someone tell me why this car has a swich to turn on the left headlight amd left taillight. And another to turn on the rights? What are these for and when would one use just one side?

Its for the parking lights to assist with extra lighting when parking in a dark area or at night.

I think it's a European thing..
My 1986 Porsche 911 also had the feature...

It's actually a feature for when you park on a dark narrow street. You can leave on whatever side of your car is exposed to traffic so cars driving by can more easily see your parked car and not side swipe it. European cars have this feature since dark and narrow street parking is plentiful over there.

I was under the Impression this was used for parallel parking, but it is odd AF as I've owned BMWs in the past and have never seen this.
