Safety Steering Vibration Feedback and Lane Assist:

Let me preface this by stating I did do a search, and couldn’t find anything comprehensive before I take it into the dealership.

I’m curious if somebody can give me some feedback to the process (and feel) for Steering Vibration?

How strong is this vibration supposed to feel? Equivalent to your phones (or gaming controller) haptic feedback? We currently have ours set to ‘Strong’ and could feel nothing.

I state ‘Feeling Nothing’ because even at Reduced Lane Assist I find the warning light constantly going off. (Even with me being dead center in the road - and a nice new road with clearly marked lanes too).


A few questions:

° Does the vehicle re-center itself and assist with steering if the lane assist light should go off?

° How strong is the steering haptic feedback?

° Is there any common fixes that should be noted I should attempt for either the Lane Assist or Steering Feedback?

Thanks in advance, I’m hoping to learn something from your experience so I know what I’m talking about if I should take the vehicle into the dealership.

To be honest lane assist was the first thing I turned off. I almost crashed on an onramp when the lane assist kicked in on the curve and caused me to under steer. Felt like someone yanked the wheel.

Yes, the car will steer itself back into where it thinks the lane is. The vibration isn't as strong as something like your phone, it's more subtle and kinda just feels like road vibration. Another way to think about it, it's like when you're driving over lane markers that are grooved, the ones that make your car vibrate (not sure if you have those around where you live).

What you describe sounds normal. I tried giving lane assist an honest chance for a few months, as I think the technology is cool. Similar to @Raidernation though, I've had multiple situations where I thought the car was trying to kill me on an on-ramp, the system doesn't work too well if the roads and line markers aren't perfect, so I turned it off.

Tire wear.

I noticed i can feel the lane assist vibrations more if the tires are newer. As the tires have aged, I notice the feedback less. My assumption, worn tires transmit more road noise and vibration.

To test this theory, try a road with super smooth roads and one rough as hell.

And I too have turned off the "assist" feature. The car trying to turn me coming through an intersection coming off an off ramp at speed was... ahem... fun.
